March 6, 1836Santa Anna’s army of over 5000 men attacked the Alamo.Travis had 189 men.The battle only lasted about 30 minutes.James Bowie was killed in his bed during the battle.Not one Texan that took part in the battle survived.600 Mexican soldiers were killed during the battle.

Importance of the AlamoSanta Anna decided to wait outside the Alamo for 12 days when he could have been hunting down the other Texas armies. He wanted to make an example of the Alamo.The Alamo gave the Texas government time to meet and create a constitution for the new Texas government.
