PREFACE Health care professionals can meet each other during this module to discuss different issues. Our aim is to offer higher education students an opportunity to look into paediatric rehabilitation from an international, intercultural, interdisciplinary and innovative point of view. Your participation in this course will turn out to be an exciting learning experience and a challenge for your further professional and personal development.

COHEHRE ACADEMY The Cohehre Academy is part of the Cohehre Consortium. The aim of the Academy is to enhance international, interdisciplinary, inter-professional cooperation and capacity building within health education among the member institutions. The Academy acts as a platform that initiates, supports and coordinates different activities. It offers opportunities to create, stimulate and intensify networking of partner institutions and to develop joint initiatives.

1- RATIONALE AND AIMS OF THE INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME Irrespective of the Bachelor and Master programmes currently offered in the participating institutions, there was a need to develop and identify a dedicated interdisciplinary module dealing with a specialised approach in Paediatric rehabilitation.
I. Extending an exchange of expertise The students will experience issues of Paediatric Rehabilitation from the perspective of other countries and cultures particularly those countries within the European Union. It is the purpose to develop and exchange expertise, especially on the rehabilitation of children within the acute hospital and inclusion in society. II. Interdisciplinary work The course focuses on interdisciplinary work. More and more professionalism and teamwork are becoming extremely important. One of the main assumptions in this project is the use of an interdisciplinary approach that reflects on cooperation between the different professions in health care. In this way the module is not only focussing on the exchange of information, but also on the teamwork in mixed interdisciplinary teams. Students and staff will especially appreciate this approach as valuable. III. International dimension This module on Paediatric Rehabilitation reflects the specific aims of the partners in extending the internationalisation of students’ understanding in this area. The programme has an international dimension aimed at broadening the knowledge of students beyond that, which is to be gained from the academic programme at their home country. It offers students the possibility to meet other students from different countries and to exchange ideas in different professional fields within health care. IV. Intercultural dimension The students will foster a mutual respect of the views of others, through questioning stereotypes on professions and cultures, and make sound judgements based on reliable information.

2 – STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE This international course is based on the ICF-framework (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health). A basic knowledge is required before starting the module. Basic information can be found on http://www.who.int/classifications/icf/en/ The intensive programme is set in Lisbon, Portugal and awards 3 ECTS. The dates are the following:
Arrival 4th September 2016 Day 1 5th September 2016 Day 6 10th September 2016 Departure 11th September 2016
Lectures and activities will take place at the facilities of the Hospital D. Estefânia (CHLC) for the first five days. The student presentations (day 6) will take place on the last day of the course at ESS-IPS, in Setúbal.
3- PARTICIPANTS This course is open for students of the final years (5th to 8th semesters) in the Bachelor programmes of Allied Health and Nursing and students of the Faculty of Medicine of the 5th year. Keynotes are open for interested health professionals. These have to send an application to the contact persons of the course in the hospital. All students of the partner institutions can follow this module and apply for ‘mobility’ between the partner institutions. Please contact the local international contact of your department and/or school.
4- VALIDATION The international module is validated with 3 ECTS-credits. The workload of the six days intensive programme is estimated on 108 hours. All participants receive a ‘transcript of record’ at the end of the course. The certificate gives the ECTS-credits and the ECTS-grades. Students can transfer the credits to their curriculum or can add this to their portfolio. The process of accreditation of these credits is the responsibility of the home institution. The working language will be English.

DISTRIBUTION OF WORKLOAD BY TYPE OF TEACHING/LEARNING APPROACH: Intensive Programme 3 ECTS (6 days intensive work, evaluation report & transfer of competences into one’s own culture) 14hTheory + 10h Theory/Practice + 12h Tutorials + 2h Placement + 3h assessment + 5h autonomous work Evaluation/Report writing in international team, upon return: 8h tutorials + 27h autonomous work
ECTS-ACCREDITATION The accreditation of the course is based on the principles of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), which is the standard in European student exchange. It allows the home institution to incorporate the credits and grades of the students in their curriculum. At the end of the course the students get a certificate and a transcript of record signed by the coordinator and the titular. THE ECTS-GRADING SCALE Examination and assessment results are usually expressed in grades. There are many different grading systems in Europe. To help institutions to interpret the grades awarded to exchange students, the ECTS grading scale has been developed by a number of European universities participating in a pilot scheme and is now largely adopted in Europe. The ECTS grade provides information on the student's performance in addition to that provided by the institution's grade. Please be advised that the ECTS grade does not replace the local grade. The following chart describes the dual use of the ECTS grading system. For example, the grade A means that the student's performance was excellent.

C Good Generally sound work with a number of notable errors – 70 to 79,9%
D Satisfactory Fair but with significant shortcomings – 60 to 69,9% E Sufficient Performance meets minimum criteria – 50 to 59,9% F Fail Considerable further work is required – under 49,9%

5- KEY AREAS OF STUDY AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The International Programme focuses on ‘Paediatric rehabilitation’ as a central theme. During the course we focus on the different aspects of the early childhood and development, the clinical interventions and the rehabilitation of children within the setting of the hospital, but also on the inclusion of clients within the family, school and society.
Key areas of Study: Early childhood development; Assessment; Clinical interventions & rehabilitation of children within the acute hospital; Inclusion/integration of clients in the society Student Learning Outcomes At the end of the course the STUDENT should demonstrate: Advanced Knowledge and understanding of the different aspects of early childhood development; Advanced knowledge and understanding of common clinical pediatric conditions in acute settings; Ability to create innovative and socially adequate responses to specific health problems of specific children; Ability to plan client focused strategies; In-depth reflection of their learning experience; Strategies to transfer this learning experience into their own reality. Institutional outcomes TEACHERS & STUDENTS & INSTITUTIONS, should demonstrate: A stronger relationship between partners Enhanced Inter-disciplinary competences; Enhanced linguistic skills in the use of English as a working language; Enhanced Intercultural competences; Increased internationalization opportunities for students

6. TEACHING & LEARNING STRATEGIES This course will be using mainly the case based learning strategy. Towards this, the following paediatric clinical areas for the cases have been agreed:
a. Burns b. Paediatric Surgery and Orthopaedics c. Neonatal d. Brachial Plexus e. Neuromuscular Diseases f. Cerebral Palsy
To complete the framework, there will be keynotes focused on understanding the clinical framework as well as main strategies for assessment, workshops and observation of the hospital team in direct interaction with the child, family and health professionals. In addition, tutorials to follow up and develop the intervention strategy for each case, will take place.

7. ASSESSMENT Assessment is a part of the learning process and assessment methods should encourage students to develop a variety of skills, abilities and opinions build on the strengths that students possess. Assessment methods will facilitate the integration of theory and practice. Therefore, we expect the students to actively participate in all contact education and to prepare for and do assignments on specific topics addressed during lectures. The students are expected to present a collaborative assignment, which will be carried out by the students, in interdisciplinary and international groups. This assignment will be presented at the end of the module.

The course will be assessed using strategies that are in accordance with the learning outcomes established. Performance criteria for the assessment of the learning outcomes defined are presented below.
Assessment In international and inter-professional groups (possible within the variety of professions and participants), the students will be assessed in three ways: a. Presentation of the case and propose course of intervention – with peer and teacher feedback on the 10th of September (30%) b. Upon conclusion of the intensive programme, students will continue collaborative work at distance and, based on the feedback given, the reports are submitted online until the 10th of October (50%). These will be assessed by 2 teachers (of different partner institutions). c. Participation in the tutorials sessions (20%)
Guidelines for the presentation At the end of the course (19th of September) the students present their case study to the other groups and the teachers’ team. Please take into consideration the following aspects when preparing your presentation: 1. The content (please see guidelines below) 2. Discussion with the audience 3. Reflection on the cooperation within the group (keywords) with regard to the different disciplines and cultures, the paradigms of each disciplines and similarities / differences between the disciplines. 4. The total time of each presentation is 30 minutes

5. You can use whatever means you choose. Each group has to hand in a digital version (handout) of the presentation, with keywords, on the Saturday, the 19th of September. Guideline for the assignment Every assignment needs to meet the 5 criteria: 1. Knowledge of the injury/condition (background about on anatomy/physiology and specific clinical condition) 2. Developing a functional balance based on different assessments

8. QUALITY EVALUATIONS AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT The quality of the course will also be evaluated, with a tool that is common to all the courses within the COHEHRE ACADEMY framework. A report will be written with the analysis of these results and made available for partners and management structures.
