Sankara's grand-teacher wrote a Karika for the Mandukya Upanishad. The Karika, consisting of four Prakaranas or sections, is held in high esteem as the Upanishad itself. It must have held a grip on Indian masters. Even Acharyas who do not hail from Advaita tradition, like Dvaita (One of Advaita's fiercest intellectual rivals) consider the first 2 or 3 prakaranas as part of the Upanishad, that is, part of the Vedic canon of Hinduism. Sankara does justice by offering his own splendid commentary to Gaudapada's Authentic Advaita Classic. This crest gem of a work has been translated into English by Swami Nikhilananda and annotated by Sri Subrahmanya Aiyar.
