Agenda

• The problem

• How we solve it

• Questions?

What is the problem?

• Transport Operators are having trouble

managing their compliance to the

regulatory road networks.

• Protected assets, like bridges, are being

driven over by heavy vehicles.

What do you do now?

• Draw the route out for

the driver on a piece

of paper?

• Cross your fingers

and hope the driver

doesn’t make a

mistake?

SmartNav at the ITS

What are we doing about it?

• Ground up build of a new navigation platform that can use third party map layers as routable road networks in an offline capacity.

• Extensive validation of the map data provided to us by VicRoads.

• Transformation of map data to create a routable road network.

• Building a pipeline to manage map updates and new networks

Give your drivers validated routes

SmartNav provides the ability for planners to create a defined route for a driver to use.

Importantly, tools are provided to alert drivers (and back-office staff) when

vehicles are off route.

WARNING!! WARNING!!

What does it look like?

And for the driver?

Currently have VicRoads regulatory map data and bridge height information

(B-Doubles, HML, HPFV, PBS 1 and 2A, 4 & 5 axle mobile cranes, etc.)

NSW “imminent” availability of data sets

The ability for anyone to build, manage and control their own networks

What do we have right now ?

What’s next?

Driver notification of special conditions

Build Safe Driving Plans including approved rest stops.

Allow clients to add their own map data (egexclusion zones, preferred stops & roads,

etc.)

Time based road exclusions
