M7 is a very early maturing navel Mutation discovered in Autumn 2004 on a Navelina (clone 7.5) tree in the orchard of: Chislett Developments Pty Ltd Kenley, Victoria, Australia. Australian PBR granted: 2005/185 USA Plant Patent: US PP18,774P2

Background

● Mutation first noticed when M7 had full colour and Navelina was light green on 02-May-2004

● Advanced colour around 4 weeks earlier than Navelina

● Very high brix 13.07 when Navelina was 9.94 on 18-May-2004

● Certified by Auscitrus to be free of any viruses in March 2006.

www.chislettnavel.com.au © 2012

Note: The true to type Fukumoto variety is not available in Australia for Comparison with M7. Maturity timing of Fukumoto is very similar to Navelina in other

countries.

Outstanding Characteristics

● Earlist Colour ● Round fruit shape ● Early Internal Maturity ● Very high brix ● Extended harvest period ● No albedo breakdown ● Firmer rind than Navelina throughout harvesting period

Observations made at Kenley, Victoria, which is a late citrus growing area

● Late hanging

● Vigorous and a distinctive foliage

● Medium to small and distinctive external navel

● Medium sized internal navel

● Early production, good yields and fruit size

● Exceptional eating quality due to higher brix (13º plus) and balanced acid

● High flavour intensity – much better eating quality than navelina

www.chislettnavel.com.au ©

Internal Quality

● Potentially good juicing yields

● More advanced and intense flesh colour than Navelina

significantly lower and petiole wing more pronounced compared to other navels varieties.

● Leaf also has a distinctive undulation

Tree and Yields ● Very vigorous tree. Fast growing with

early cropping

● Good production – 15 tonne/ha from 3.5 year old trees (1000 trees/ha)

● Good fruit size, probably better than Navelina

Harvest period ● Harvest possible 3 weeks earlier than Navelina

● Kenley (late maturity area) juice 40%, brix 10o, ratio 8.0:1 by early to mid April (October NH)

● Fruit - firm and good condition on tree for minimum 4 months (firmer than Navelina at all stages)

● Acid levels maintained above 0.75% for at least 4 months

● No fruit drop without 2,4D up to the end of August, obvious drop on Navelina

Harvested Kenley from 3.5 year old unpruned trees

Testimonial Hi Guys, Here are the results for the samples Greg sent in. The M7 was very impressive, I tested 6 fruit. With the other 2, I cut one up and left the other

whole and showed Bill, Perry, Ferdi and Gerome (Holman Fresh). All were very impressed, Gerome especially – he said he loved the variety and couldn’t believe the taste, colour, shape and rind quality. He said it needs a sexier name and thought Mara Mara could be a good one!

I’ll let you think about that one Greg Kind regards, Mara Milner
