Welcome Back to Class! On your desk you should have:Calculator, Pen/Pencil, & WUN

Warm Up (6 min) – 8/301. The point B(-5, 3) is reflected twice. First over the line then over the y-axis. How far is B’ from B?

2. C(3, -5) was reflected over a line to form C’(3, 3). What line was used for the reflection?

Warm Up (6 min) – 8/301. The point B(-5, 3) is reflected twice. First over the line then over the y-axis. How far is B’ from B?

14 units away, horizontally

2. C(3, -5) was reflected over a line to form C’(3, 3). What line was used for the reflection?

Important TerminologyWhat is symmetry?

Important TerminologyWhat is symmetry?

- An ability to “mirror” a shape onto itself- An ability to cut a shape into congruent pieces- “Foldable”

5

Symmetry – Two TypesRotational: a shape can be rotated around its center to

produce the same “visual” shape; does not have to be a basic rotation (i.e., can be any turning amount between 0o and 360o)

Reflexive: a shape can be mirrored over a line and produce the same “visual” shape; vertex labels do not need to match up but vertices have to “swap”

Example 1Determine any, and all, lines of

symmetry for the figure.

symmetry for the figure.

Example 9Determine any, and all, lines

of symmetry for the figure.

Example 10Determine if the figure has

rotational symmetry. If it does define the basic rotation needed.

Note: This is a rectangle

Example 11Determine if the figure has

rotational symmetry. If it does define the basic rotation needed.

Note: This is an equilateral triangle

Example 12Determine if the figure has

rotational symmetry. If it does define the basic rotation needed.

Note: This is a square.

Example 13Determine if the figure has

rotational symmetry. If it does define the basic rotation needed.

Example 14Determine if the figure has

rotational symmetry. If it does define the basic rotation needed.

ReminderCompTrans02 is due tomorrow

If you’re leaving school early you are expected to turn it in before you leave

You have the remainder of the period to work on it
