Dear Friends,
Hope you are all well. Again, a friendly reminder to stay healthy and safe. Try to take more precaution against this Covid-19. This is really a crazy time and a scary time. Kindly take extra care of yourselves.
There are times scheduled for confessions in each parish. I would kindly ask you all to make use of this
chance to make your confessions and prepare yourselves for the celebration of Christmas. There can be
no better celebration of Christmas than to make confession, attend mass and receive communion. As I write this message, it is my birthday, the Second of December. My friends from India wished me
well for my birthday and asked me if I bought any new dress for my birthday or if I was going to have a
special celebration of the birthday. Some asked me if I cut any cake for my birthday. Some of my friends
in Wisconsin and Minnesota, wished me happy birthday on Facebook. None of what people asked me about, I did. But I understood how people want to celebrate their birthdays. It is a joy to celebrate the
birthday with all the things I mentioned above.
We, as ordinary people, human beings want to remember our birthdays and celebrate that as much as we could. We also try to celebrate it in a grand manner. We try to make it a memorable one. To make it so,
we try all our best to make it very innovative and a creative one. All is fine. But one question still
remains: How do we celebrate the birthday of the One who created me, saved me by dying?
Yes, I hope you got the point. How do we celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ the Savior and the
Messiah? We do celebrate this birthday every year. What about the qualitative aspect of this celebration? When we celebrate our own birthday, we put all our love and involvement in it. How much of love and
involvement do we put in the celebration of this person of history? We most often do it as a regular
routine.
There is no proper preparation for it. There is no involvement in it. We do it for the sake of doing it. Or
we do it instinctively, i.e. if we do not celebrate it, we feel that we have missed something. Or we
celebrate it because it is an occasion for some sort of celebration like any other celebration. Or we
celebrate it because it is a time for some enjoyment. So, do we celebrate it for what it has to be celebrated? Do we celebrate it because, it is the birth of the Savior who saved us? Do we celebrate it
because He has loved us so much as to die for us? Do we celebrate it because we rejoice in our salvation?
Do we celebrate it with real joy of the heart that comes from within, the spiritual joy, not any pleasure
from the material things? If we think we celebrate for these real reasons, how should we celebrate it?
This is what I said in the beginning of this message. Make use of the chance to make your confession and take part in the Eucharist. We have five masses for Christmas. There is no reason for not attending mass
for this celebration.
God Bless,
LITURGICAL MINISTERS: December 12th & December 13th:
ST. PETER’S
No Masses until further notice.
QUEEN OF PEACE
Altar Care: Sign-up list for 2021 Altar Care is in the
sacristy. Please sign up for a month or two. Thank you.
ALL PARISHES NOTICE: Due to Covid-19 there will be no masses at St. Peter’s in Rose Creek until further notice.
SECOND COLLECTION: There will be a second collection next weekend, December 12-13 to help our elders. In good times and bad, senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests have dedicated themselves to service and acts of mercy. Today, they pray for an aching world. Yet years of serving for little or no pay have left their religious communities without enough retirement savings. Your gift to the Retirement Fund for Religious helps provide medications, nursing care, and other necessities. Please be generous.
POINSETTIAS: Poinsettia donation request forms are in the back of church. This year they are coming from Berg’s Nursery and the cost is $15.00. Please print when filling out your forms for accurate spelling in the bulletin. You can either return your request forms by putting them in the collection basket or bringing them to the office. The deadline for requests is December 7th.
ADVENT PREPARATION: Catholic Char ities of Southern Minnesota would like to offer you some oppor tunities to make your Advent preparations special this year. Beginning on Saturday, Nov. 28th, we will offer an Advent Reflection Series – each Saturday at 10:00 am on Zoom. Each week we will have a guest presenter offering reflection and discussion on the themes of Advent each week; Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. To get the Zoom link for this series, please contact Lisa Kremer at lkremer@ccsomn.org. Also check the Advent banner on our website (www.ccsomn.org) for more information and other opportunities.
