THIS IS YOUR LIFE!BACKGROUND – DESIGN OF BCSS
Issues with reach and adherence of BCSS.
•Reach: limited target groups are reached.
•Adherence: interventions are not used long enough /
intensively enough
A better design could create products and services that not
only satisfy a function or solve a problem, but that are also
desirable, aspirational, compelling and delightful (Burns et al
2006).

THIS IS YOUR LIFE!THREE DESIGN TOOLS
Design tools: (not yet used for the design of BCSS)
1. Use of metaphors
2. (alternative) Design of information: (multi)modality & specificity
3. Personalization
(Ludden, G.D.S., van Rompay T. J. L., Kelders, S. M. & van Gemert-Pijnen, J.E.W.C.
Improving wellbeing through technology: design for reach and adherence.
Submitted).

THIS IS YOUR LIFE!USING METAPHOR TO MOTIVATE
Metaphor: (language)
Used as a design tool in product design and
interaction design
Used by designers to create / transfer meaning.
(from source to target)
Can also be used to transfer motivating element
from source to target.

THIS IS YOUR LIFE!DESIGN PROCESS
Use of metaphor +
User centered design approach:
-Day in the life
-Evaluation of POI’s
-Co-creation

THIS IS YOUR LIFE!EVALUATION
Evaluation of prototype:
(N=13, 3 M, mean age = 38)
-First impression
-10 mins use of prototype
Positive: challenging, motivating, users would like to continue
using this intervention
Negative: too many elements, explanation needed.
Next steps: - further developement of prototype
- RCT
