This net- zero rehabilitation center located South West corner of Van Buren and Des Plaines in Chicago is designed to be a therapeutic space to aid college-aged students who are transitioning from having drug addictions to integrating into a new life in college. The project was designed to allow the maximum amount of sunlight in to create an uplifting environment. The roof of the building slopes to the south to aid the photovoltaics on the roof of

the building; capturing the most energy but also allowing the maximum amount of sunlight to penetrate deep in the building will help lessen the amount of artificial light needed through the courtyard and skylight scattered across the buildings roof. The courtyard of the rehab center is left without a roof so that outdoor elements such as rain, snow, and leaves can fall through and be enjoyed from within the building, in turn helping to connect residence

and visitors to nature even in the center of a city. By combining multiple passive and mechanical energy saving techniques such as photovoltaic, ground source heat pumps, water collection, thermal mass and high levels glazing on the north and south facades. The building is designed to be a net zero energy building setting a positive example in the community.

The building was to be a landmark studio and gallery space for Danish artist Olafur Eliasson, placed in the heart of Copenhagen. The façade of the project was designed to embody many of the characteristics of Eliassons work. By playing with shadow, light and texture, this project becomes an iconic project while respecting its historic context.

The World Vision shelter competition is designed to challenge teams of students to design and build a full-scale disaster relief shelter that is then tested under real world conditions. The site for this project was Indonesia. Our design was centered around the reactions to the

hot climate of Indonesia. By providing a permeable skin near the top of the shelter (allowing fresh air to enter) and a less permeable tarp that makes up the rest of the shelter (to protect from the harsh monsoon rain), this shelter is ideal for the environment that it is placed in. On

this project, I worked along side my classmates to work through design development and full-scale construction of the shelter.

4_River Keeper/ Formal Expression

The goal of the Riverkeeper is to educate the community about the ecology of the river it serves. The building is located on the banks of the Fox River in St. Charles Illinois. The Riverkeeper is designed to mimic the rock

formations that line the adjacent river. The path within the building takes after the formation of the river by winding visitors through the building to the observation deck that concludes their journey. The expressive nature of the

building was an exploration of architecture reacting to the natural environment around it in a literal way. By looking at the rocks along the river, the building itself became a rock-like form that nestles itself into the landscape.

5_Unity Temple Exploration

These concrete models are an exploration of Unity Temple by Frank Lloyd Wright in Oak Park Illinois. Through these models I exploited the relation between interior and exterior tectonics of the building (left). Along with exploration of the worship space as it relates to entry, light and void space (right).

6_Lamp Project

The objective of this project was to study and experiment the way light reacts to different materials and forms. This lamp’s purpose is to create a soft, warm, ambient light. This atmosphere is created by having the light source placed in a way so it is not seen from any angle. Concert was used to provide a non-reflective surface to aid in defusing the light as it hits the caps of the lamp and then bounces out.
