Kaunas Construction School is a VET institution that qualify skilled workers.It provides quality initial, contuining vocational and general secondary education that satisfies the requirements of up-to-date professional activities and changes of competitive labour market.

Practical training

Training programmes

Programmes for VET are developed by their providers according to the Procedure of VET programmes development and legitimation, relevant VET Standards and General training plans approved by the Minister of Science and Education.

Major features of the programmes:

Practical training comprises 60-70% of the total time allocated to teaching vocational subjects

The last 15 weeks are allocated for practical training in an enterprise or in a school-based workshop simulating working conditions

Programmes include subjects of civil security and fundamentals of economics

Work safety and health as well as ecology and speciality foreign language are integrated into vocational subjects

Content of the programme includes:

General description of the profession Aim, activities and competences Competence limits, study objectives,

subjects, competence assesment

Social partners

There is carried out the research continually among construction and wood processing companies that are interested in training process of skilled workers. They provide expertise and advice concerning the vocational training content as well as assist in the organisation of student’s practical placements.

Programme lasts for 3 years; Students have:

vocational subjectsgeneral cultural subjectsgeneral education subjects;

School year includes 2 semesters (each lasts for 20 weeks);

After two years of studies students take maturity exams.

Decorator’s activities: general building works; building thermal insulation and plastering works; building decoration using tiles; painting of building surfaces and hanging wallpapers; fixing of decorative panels and rectilinear elements.

In order to carry out work successfully decorator need the following main competences:

physical endurance; ability to work at height; ability to work individually and as a team; high concentration of attention.

Student obtains decorator’s qualification after completing the whole training programme and achieving training objectives provided in the Standards of VET.

Student’s competence is assessed through a final qualification examination at the end of the programme. It comprises both theoretical and practical parts.

Implementation of the examination is regulated by the Procedure of initial VET qualification exams approved by the Ministry of Education and Science.

Assessment of theoretical knowledge is through test that comprises all professional activities found in the Standards of VET.

During practical part of the exam there are assessed at least two main competences of the following:

ability to plaster using hand tools; ability to set tiles; ability to paint using hand tools; ability to hang wallpapers; ability to read work drawings.
