3WELCOME
If you drove here in your Land Rover (and why wouldn’t you?), you’llalready know that this year’s show is going to be di9erent, because forthe very first time, we’ve got a designated Land Rover only parking area. This is just one of the new features we’ve introduced for 2013.
We’ve been looking forward to this event all year, putting all our e9ortsbehind this one show, and we’ve planned a corker. Whether it’s excitingarena action, mud-flinging fun on the Britpart o9-road course or thechance to see and buy the latest overlanding kit, then look no further –it’s all here at the Land Rover Owner International Show, proudlysponsored by Silverline 4x4. Come and see their huge range of wheelsand tyres on display next to the LRO stand.
This year, we’ve got the LRO Live Action Arena with awesome vehicles suchas QT’s Wildcat rally raiders tearing around and whipping up a storm andextreme winch challenge action thanks to the guys at Flatdog.
Away from the petrol-head action, LRO’s SamWatson is holding an OverlandWorkshop (Saturday only) with first-hand advice and information from avariety of speakers for every budding adventurer.
The Armed Forces Rally Team, supported by Polybush, is in the workshoptent next to LRO, racing the clock to rebuild a rally Defender. Will they getit finished in time for the Sunday afternoon deadline? Only time will tell.
But, the undisputed stars of the show are the Land Rover club stands, packed with 65 years’ worth of Land Rover history. Whether you’re new tothe scene or part of the furniture, you’ll find plenty of gleaming metal tosatisfy you.
On behalf of the whole LRO team, I hope you enjoy the show!

This is the Alive Tuned and sponsored Defender builtby The Old Forge Garage in Lincolnshire and drivenby Phill Bayliss. The vehicle is used in Comp Safarisand Hillrally style events, all about speed andreliability. The TD5 engine has always had a badpress so to make this engine fast and reliablebecame our number one task. We joined forceswith Alive Tuning and have seen the engine andperformance go from strength to strength. It isfitted with the Alive Tuning PP5 Kit which includesa variable vain turbo and tubular manifoldconfiguration and the results are fantastic. Thisvehicle is used as the ultimate test for the Aliveproducts, with the extreme use it undertakes, flatout prolonged driving and with high temperaturescreated, it tests the products to the limit and provesthat reliability has not su1ered even when massivepower increase is achieved.

The Land Rover G4 ChallengeThe Land Rover G4 Challenge was a global adventure competition, as the spiritual successorto the Camel Trophy it had oI-road driving at its core, with additional disciplines of orienteering, climbing, kayaking and mountain biking to test competitor and equipment in gruelling conditions. As more and more of the vehicles used in the 2003 Land Rover G4 Challenges made their way into
private hands, many owners started to correspond with each other via other 4x4 clubs, it quicklybecame apparent that this was an ideal opportunity to create a community to preserve thesevehicles and to share information. Early in 2007, following articles that appeared in several Land Rover magazines,a small number of enthusiasts got together and started work on building the framework for an organisation. The G4OC was born and warmly welcomed by other groups. With 2013 being the tenth anniversary of the 2003 Challenge we will be celebrating at LRO Peterborough on the
G4OC stand with specially commissioned G4 cakes as well as numerous vehicles for people to come and have a lookaround from the 2003 and 2006 challenges.

Owner’s vehicles range from out and out oA-roadersthrough to greenlaners and those that are day to day transport andgive the owners the joy of owning and driving a Land Rover.
As a club we get involved with a whole range of events so that allmembers and their families are catered for, however they enjoyusing their Land Rovers. Over the last couple of years we haveenjoyed oA-road events like The Strata Florida, Bala and The LandRover Experience all throughout North and South Wales.
We of course attend all the LRO Events such as Harrogate, Billingand Peterborough also members attended The Eastnor Land RoverShow in 2012 which members enjoyed despite the inclement weather.Members have just returned from a successful trip to Portugal havingenjoyed a sunny holiday and some spectacular oA-roading.www.llroc.co.uk
Red Rose Land Rover ClubRed Rose Land Rover Club Ltd was formed in 1982 by a group of LandRover enthusiasts and has gone from strength to strength over theyears with members of all ages – the youngest being just 11 months oldand the oldest… well that would be telling!
The club is based within the North West of England and is amember of the Association of Land Rover Clubs, which is a nationalorganisation promoting all things about Land Rover. All our events rununder the ALRC regulations.
This year, as well as having a club stand there will be a ‘Challenge ofRoses’ contest in the main arena, which will be carrying out ‘tasks’involving Land Rovers, their gadgets and other bits and pieces! It is amixture of brains, brawn and good humour to complete the tasks inteams which require three Land Rovers per team and six teammembers.
Come and see us on the club stand and watch the fun in the mainarea – don’t forget to give the lads and lasses (maybe) a big cheer!
Should you want to learn more about our club and/or the War of theRoses event, please visit our website www.redroselrc.co.uk– but beware, being bitten by the Land Rover bug, means you may not want a cure!

Breckland Land Rover ClubBreckland Land Rover Club (BLRC), was originally formed by a group of keen enthusiasts, it is now the largest Land Rover clubin Norfolk made up of a major group of drivers, interested parties and even unwilling partners! Started in 1971, the club hadaccess to Stanford battle area, a trials and safari site second to none right in the heart of Breckland: the name stuck althoughsadly we now have lost the use of the MOD site. The Club badge depicts ‘Old Shuck’ (from the Anglo-Saxon ‘Soucca’ – Omen ofDoom), a large spectral hound which supposedly roams the marshes of Norfolk, and a windpump typical of the Broads area.
Olli4x4A group set up by friends fed up with normal clubs and politics, we area bunch of Land Rover nuts (any 4x4 is welcome) that enjoy the socialside of things, attending shows, camping trips, days out, greenlane daysout all over the country and beyond. The club is set out to be familyfriendly, for those with a relaxed laid back attitude, who just want tomix and have fun with others. So far this year we had a weekend inWales greenlaning, along with several local trips, attended shows, withmore planned for this year. Membership is free – we have a website butmost of the chat going on via our facebook page for day to day stuF.With the club having its first birthday at the Peterborough show, we
already have over 100 members all over UK, and international.
Just Defenders + SeriesWe started oF almost twoyears ago with the FacebookGroup ‘Just Defenders +Series’, which has now gotover 2100 members from allover the world, and thenumbers increase daily.Members post pictures of
their pride and joys and alsopost questions if they needany help. We once had amember that was in danger – his Defender was hanging over a verysteep ravine. He posted his co-ordinates on our page and within twohours he had been rescued and was home, with extreme thanks toanother one of our members (a happy ending)! We are a friendly bunch of Land Rover Defender and Series
enthusiasts that like to talk about and tweek our Defenders and Series. We like to go greenlaning, all across the country, and to see thediFerent modifications our members do to their trucks – believe mesome are amazing.

MEET THE
EDITOR-IN-CHIEFJOHN PEARSON
Now that Mike is firmly in the Editor’s
driving seat, I have more time to travel in
my ex-G4 Challenge Defender 110. Since
then I’ve been to the Sahara, Norway’s
Nordkapp (the furthest north you can
drive in Europe), France’s Massive
Central, various Spanish mountain
ranges, the French and Italian Alps plus
Portugal. I’m shortly heading to Portugal
again for some new routes, and plan
some more desert action later in the year.
Next year I’m heading for Australia’s
famous desert drives.
DEPUTY EDITORNEIL WATTERSON
I’ve been into Land Rovers for nearly as
long as Mark Saville’s been growing his
beard. I’ve driven almost every greenlane
there is to drive in England and Wales,
many of them more than once. My tatty
old SIIA has taken me on dozens of
adventures around the UK, and thanks to
its galvanised chassis and Tdi transplant,
should be good for a few years yet.
THE EDITORMIKE GOODBUN
Writing LRO is probably the most fun you can
have in front of a computer. Keeping the
magazine one step ahead of developments at
Land Rover while hunting for my dream 109in
Series on LRO.com neatly sums up my all-
consuming fascination with these remarkable
vehicles. I haven’t yet found quite the right
project vehicle to join my Disco 3, but I’m
determined to join the swelling ranks of Series
owners as soon as I can. Like the rest of the
LRO team, my connection to Land Rover goes
back many years; it’s a deeply ingrained
passion with all of us.
NEWJust in time for the show, we’ve launched aniPhone-compatible version of the magazine, joining our iPad and Android editions andour totally redesigned website
www.LRO.com – it’s the place to buy and sellLand Rovers. Now you can get Land RoverOwner International magazine anywhere.

CLUBS EDITORRUSS BROWN
I started o:-roading in the 80s to get
my inflatable dive boat to where others
couldn’t. Then I met Hayley, and
needed to pull something heavier, not
her but her horses. From then on it has
been Land Rovers all the way. The club
scene soon followed and one Land
Rover became three, then five. Then
five years ago, John Pearson said, ‘it’s
about time you wrote about them …’
STAFF WRITERTHEO FORD-SAGERS
Inspired by 1970s photos of my parents’
Series II in Morocco, I’ve dreamt of African
adventures of my own, for years. I even
lavished my student loan on a couple of dodgy
Series III projects; both taught me a huge
amount about old Land Rovers. Finally, three-
and-a-half years ago, a Series IIA 109in came
up for sale in Norfolk; we’ve been inseparable
ever since. I still harbour dreams of overland
adventure and plan to spend the coming
months and years preparing the 109 for a
trip, somewhere.
ASSISTANT EDITORMARK SAVILLE
Driving Plimsoll, my well-worn 1957 Series I
Land Rover, to Iceland this year was a real
watershed experience. The 3500-mile trip
made me realise that I really would like to
rebuild Plimsoll; I even bought three tins of
paint at Billing. Plimsoll’s taken me on so
many superb adventures but if I want to do
many more, he’s going to need a major
mechanical overhaul; especially the
transmission. Where will I go to when and if I
get him fighting fit again? Simple – Iceland’s a
very big place.
