Love, the Greatest Commandment, Part 3Honor God’s Name
The third of the Ten Commandments says: “You shall
not take the name of the Lord your God in vain”
(Exodus 20:7 ESV).
When we love God with all of our heart, soul, and mind, and our
neighbor as ourselves …1
We want to honor God in the way we speak of Him, and we want
others to know how wonderful He is.
Out of love and respect, we only use the names of God and Jesus,
or Christ, in positive ways and never as swear words as we might hear
others do at times.
1 Matthew 22:37–39 ESV
Oh, Jesus, please forgive me for using Your name that way!
I love You!

Jesus gave us an example of how to refer
to God’s name in a loving and respectful
manner.
3 Matthew 6:9 ESV
That was a fun game after all!
Yes, thank God. I had a
great time even though we lost.
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name”3.
