Message from Lorna Perez-Caster LORNAPEREZ-CASTER

October2018 CarolDobi

Hello Everyone,

I hope your summer months were filled with happy moments and plenty of leisure time to participate in activities you enjoy. One activity most enjoy is going to the Coronado 4th of July Parade. We want to thank Sharon Shelton and Carol Dobi for entering FOCUS in the parade and were awarded a 2nd Place ribbon which was proudly displayed on the FOCUS banner as they took part in the parade. Thanks to all who made this a fun project.

FOCUS was dark in August but came back running at our September Board meeting reviewing all upcoming events and approving $7,450 worth of projects. These were sent out to the membership with 65 voting for the projects and 3 “no’s”. Our shoppers got busy to fill the requests. Two days after our Board meeting we held the 36th Anniversary of FOCUS Membership Reception at the lovely home of Diane Wiley. The home and the view were breathtaking! Thanks to Betty Lepore and her assistant Fran Becker for organizing this event and I want to thank Hostesses Dotty Turner, Jane DeYoung, Herlinda Ryan and Lisa Storey.

The next 3 months will be busy ones for FOCUS so check your Newsletter for the flyers of events coming up and put down the dates on your calendar. We want your participation and to see you! The first date to remember is the happy hour October meeting at Calypso Café on the 18th. Next, we have our fun shopping Holiday Boutique on November 17th to be held at CCYC. Alexandra Polles will need lots of helpers for this annual fundraiser so be ready, she might call you. In December we have the Chili Dinner at CCYC, FOCUS Christmas Party and the Installation of our new Board of Directors for 2019! A packed month!

Always wishing you the very best,

Marianna Polles,

FOCUS President

At our annual fundraiser, the bid for a cocktail party for twelve was won by Jeri and Bill Barsz, Jean and Gene Bauer, Vicki and Ed Morris, Jane DeYoung and Fred Gilman, Bob and Sandy Shugert, as well as Judee and Barry Thomas. They had all agreed at the Evening with Elvis "To just do it !" This group of friends traveled to the home of Gail and Robert Bardin, who had graciously donated their home for the occasion. It was at the home of Gail and Robert that the group met with Luciano Scagliarini and his sister, Romi, who became the chefs for the evening. Salads, hors d'oeuvres, chips, salsa and other treats were served by FOCUS volunteers Nancy Strickland, as well as Sharyn and Bob Blongiewicz. Wayne Strickland was the designated bartender, Don Swanson, photographer, and Suzanne Manuel the Project Coordinator for the event. It was a great event and enjoyed by all the sponsors, volunteers, as well as those with the winning bid! Quite a collaboration of generous people. Food donated by U.S. Foods, Baja Produce, and Mexican Village.
