Log Subsets
Overview
There are numerous situations in which the total number of logs available in a project exceeds the
number of common logs that are required for every day interpretation To facilitate working with
log data you can create log subsets A log subset consists of any combination of digital raster or
composite logs
After a log subset is defined it is added to the Working Set and can then be used in Kingdom
software For example if you are planning to create a cross section displaying only gamma ray
and resistivity curves you might want to create a subset that includes only the GR and LLD logsAfter you add the log subset to the log working set you can easily create a cross section that
displays only GR and LLD curves and their aliases If you should later want to display a density
curve you will need to add it to your log subset or turn on a system-generated subset to make the
subset available for use in Kingdom software
There are four system-generated subsets All Digital Logs All Composite Logs All Raster
Logs and All Log Curves Each system subset is dynamic which means that any new log curves
that are imported edited or calculated will automatically be added to the appropriate subset

1 Open the Log Subset Management dialog box and click the Copy tab
2 Select the subset name you want to change In this case select Gamma Ray and Resistivity
3 Enter the new name (Gamma Ray and Resistivity copy) for the subset in the New Log
Subset Name text field
4 Click Apply The new name is added to the Log Subset to Copy window
5 To delete a subset click the Delete tab
6 Select the subset(s) to delete In this exercise select the Gamma Ray and Resistivity copy
subset you just created
7 Click Apply
8 A message box opens with the following information
The deletion operation is irreversible Are you sure you want to delete the selected
Log Subset(s)
9 Click Yes
10 Click Cancel to close the Log Subset Management dialog box
Note Log Subsets do not apply to the Log Editor For example if you create a log subset of
gamma ray and resistivity curves and wish to display all the logs for a given well in the log
editor you can do this without having to edit the log subset working set
Note Log Subsets do apply to the Log Table If you select a subset that contains only resistivity
logs and want to display all the curves for a given well in the log table you must first add
the All Digital Curves subset back into your working set
Congratulations you successfully completed the Log Subset tutorial
