Let’s pause for two questions.

Aligning to NGSSThrough a collaborative, state-led process managed by Achieve, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) are being developed that will be rich in content and practice, arranged in a coherent manner across disciplines and grades to provide all students an internationally benchmarked science education. The NGSS will be based on the Framework for K–12 Science Education developed by the National Research Council. The final document is scheduled to be completed this spring.

The Framework is a critical first step in the process of developing the NGSS because it is grounded in the most current research on science and science learning and identifies the science all K-12 students should know.

The Framework is organized in three dimensions:• Scientific and Engineering Practices• Crosscutting Concepts• Disciplinary Core Ideas (Physical, Life, Earth and Space Sciences, and

Engineering, Technology, and Applications of Science)
