General Goals of the Course
The main goal is two-fold:(i) introduce students to the methodology of modern linguistics(ii) teach analytic reasoning via examination of linguistic data
Thus, you will be taught:
I A basic introduction to some of the main results and ideasof modern linguistics
I The scientific reasoning behind them, so that you canapply that reasoning to novel cases, both in language andin other spheres of life.
Given the focus on formal reasoning, the course satisfiesthe ‘R2’ general education requirement.
