Planning Your AC Transit TripThere are four ways to plan your AC Transit trip:• Use online trip-planning tools atactransit.org, 511.org, or onGoogle Transit atgoogle.com/transit.

• View maps and schedules on ourweb site at actransit.org.

• Pick up our printed maps andschedules from the Parking andTransportation Office at 2150Kittredge Street.

• Call the AC Transit InformationCenter at (510) 891-4777 or call511 (and say, “AC Transit,”then say, “Information”).

Using Real-Time DeparturesReal-Time Departure information letsyou know when the next bus will be atyour stop, so you don't have to waitlonger than you need to.You can access Real-Time Departures on the web,by phone or text message,or on electronic signs at select bus stops. Downloadan app via the Real-Timeicon on your smart phoneor tablet at actransit.org. Each bus stop has a Stop ID number that you can reference when you phone or text.Look for the Stop ID number on mostbus stop pole signs or on the web. Visitactransit.org/realtime for more info.

Printed Maps & SchedulesWe publish two system maps that together cover the AC Transit servicearea: San Pablo to Oakland, and SanLeandro to Fremont. We also publishindividual pocket schedules with aroute map for each bus line.

Using Pocket SchedulesMost pocket schedules list several ofthe bus stops along the route, with thetimes the bus is expected to arrive ateach stop. These stops are called “timepoints.” There are usually additionalbus stops between the time points. Just

find the time point closest to where youare starting your AC Transit trip andread down the column under the timepoint in order to find the time youneed to be at the bus stop.

Boarding the BusBus stops are marked with the AC Transitlogo and display the bus lines that stopthere. Mostbus lines havestops everyfew blocks.Make sureyou are on the correct side of thestreet for yourdirection oftravel. Wait for the bus as close aspossible to the bus stop pole to make iteasier for the bus operator to see you.You don’t have to signal the bus, butdoing so will help ensure that the operator doesn’t miss you by mistake.When the bus arrives, check the linenumber or letter to make sure it’s thebus you want.

Stopping the BusRequest your stop by pulling the cord,pressing the button on the pole, orpressing the button above your head.The “Stop Requested” sign will light. If you

are not sure when your stop will be comingup, ask the operator to let you know.

AccessibilityAll AC Transit buses have built-in features—passenger lifts, ramps,handrails, and kneelers—that makeit easier forseniors andpersons with disabilities toride. Priorityseating isclearlymarked onevery buswith signsabove or near the seats. If you are asenior or a person with a disability,you may ask the operator to remindnon-disabled passengers to vacate aseat for you.

Bringing Your BicycleAll AC Transit buses have a rack on the front for two or three bikes. Youmay load a bicycle at any time of day,with no extra fare or permit. Cyclistsmust load and unload their own bikes.
