Thank you for participating in our Spring Book Fair. With your support we have earned over $1100 in product for our learning commons and classrooms!
Although this is our smaller book fair, it was a huge success for a number of reasons; we didn’t have parent teacher interviews to rely on (but you turned up anyways, thank you), we sold lots of books vs. toys in comparison to the fall book fair, and we got many new books into the hands of students to read and enjoy for years to come.
We appreciate your continued support for our learning commons and welcome your feedback and suggestions.

A Peace Pole is a handcrafted monument that displays the message and
prayer May Peace Prevail on Earth on each of its four sides. There are
tens of thousands of Peace Poles in 180 countries all over the world
dedicated as monuments to peace. They serve as constant reminders
for us to visualize and pray for World Peace. Students have painted our
Peace Pole which will be displayed in the school as a sign of peace and a
celebration of diversity.

Lilian Schick hosted their first archery tournament on Saturday, April 22. Students
from Lilian Schick, Guthrie, Camilla and Kipohtakaw Education Centre attended. The
tournament will be an annual event for students to showcase their skills as the
National Archery in Schools Program grows in Sturgeon Schools. We were very
excited for our students to have the experience of shooting in a tournament setting
and the opportunity to meet other archers in our division.
We would like to thank all the volunteers who helped with the tournament and
allowed our first tournament experience to be a successful one!
Thank you to the following people:
Mark Lockwood, Mr. Heinen, Mr. Hewitt and Mrs. McRobbie (officiating the line)
Anthony P, Shea M, Emily R, Markus G, Francis D, Martine W, Madelaine M,
Madelyn P, Jaden S, Bryden C, Raiden W (Student helpers – set up, greeting,
concession and clean up)
Brittney Pylpiuk (help with software)
Mrs. Martinell (Concession)

tournament were:

Our Archery Club ends on Wednesday, April 26 with a fun shoot for all archers, medal presentations for the tournament and information related to archery for the 2017-18 school year. If any parents are interested in helping us out with the club next year and would like to take the NASP one day training please contact the school 780-921-2200. We would appreciate the support and it is a wonderful way to spend time with your kids. Thanks LS Archery Team (Carmen Cornelius, Shauna Sudyk and Jerome Chabot)

Hockey and Sports Leadership
On Tuesday, April 25th Hockey and Sports Leadership students went on a field trip
to Hayabusa MMA in St Albert. Students learned a number of wrestling and
striking techniques from Mike Scarcello, a professional instructor and MMA
competitor. Our students had a great time while getting in a fantastic workout.

Grade 6 students took their art class outside to enjoy the last remnants of snow (we hope)! What better material for practicing their sculpting skills. They created dogs, dolphins, turtles, fish, and even monsters!
