ABOUT THE LIBRARY IN A BOX
Grand Lodge of the Philippines, F&AM
being the principal sponsor of Exempli
Gratia Foundation (EGF) for the Library
in a Box structures which will house
the books coming from Rotary Interna-
tional and IBM Kidsmart computers
and furnitures.
The Exempli Gratia Foundation (EGF)
developed the proof of concept of the
"Library in a Box" project in December
2013 and delivered it to Cabangan Ele-
mentary School in Camalig, Albay Prov-
ince, in June 2014. A "Library in a Box"
is a customized and fully furnished dis-
aster-resilient library designed to with-
stand typhoons, earthquakes, flooding,
and other natural calamities.
ENGAGING THE RIGHT PARTNERS AND
STAKEHOLDERS
Throughout history, education and
support for public schools have always
been in the DNA of Master Masons all
over the world. In the United States,
for instance, Grand Master Benjamin
Franklin was a key figure behind the
adoption of a public school system in
Pennsylvania. A group of Masons es-
tablished the University of North Caro-
lina—the first state-funded college in
America. Grand Master DeWitt Clinton,
Governor of New York from 1817 to 1822, is rec-
ognized as the father of public schools in New
York. US Grand Lodges also founded 88 public
colleges in 11 states that support deserving stu-
dents to graduate on scholarships.
In the Philippines, the aspiration of Filipino Ma-
sons to make a profound difference in the trans-
formation of our public schools is evident. That is
why, MW Tomas G. Rentoy III enjoined every
Filipino Mason to take active part in this im-
portant initiative.
LIBRARY IN A BOX is a nationwide project of the Grand Lodge of the Philip-
pines under Grand Master MW Tomas G. Rentoy lll for fifty six (56) Masonic
Districts comprising the Philippine Jurisdiction.

Victoria Homes Elementary School is a public school
located in Victoria Homes at the southwest bound-
ary of Muntinlupa City and San Pedro, Laguna. On
the west side is Bacoor, Cavite and Muntinlupa
Bilibid Prison Penitentiary.
The school has a population of 1,700 students from
Grade 1 to Grade 6 schoolers and run by a group of
public school teachers headed by Mrs Gina U. Ur-
quia, Mrs Madeline A. Diaz, Chief—CID and Dr.
Mauro C. De Gulan, School Dstrict Superintendent
In line with the program of MW Tomas G. Rentoy III,
Grand Master of Masons of the Grand Lodge of the
Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines to do-
nate one (1) Library in every District comprising the
total 56 Masonic Districts of the Philippine Jurisdic-
tion from Appari in the north to Jolo , Sulu in the
south.
Victoria Homes Elementary School was chosen as
the recipient after many evaluations of different lo-
cations in Paranaque, Las Pinas, Makati, Taguig, and
as far as San Jose in Batangas. The site is ideal for
the implementation because of the number of stu-
dents that will be benefited plus their proposed ex-
pansion for the secondary education.
Upon consultation with the 12 Lodges during the
district meeting, it was decided that a permanent
concrete structure shall be made instead of the 40
footer container as per the program. This will entail
high construction cost because the area is big with
lanai garden.
However, with the spirit of charity and hope for the
betterment of the youth education , masons of Ma-
sonic District NCRG agreed to implement the pro-
posal of permanent structure. Signing of MOA on November 4, 2015 between Victoria Homes
Elem. School Principal Mrs. Gina U. Urquia and VW Bernardo F.
Bondoc, DDGM NCR-G; VW Silverio Garing, Muntinlupa City
Lodge No. 414 as Lead Lodge.
