The Neighborhood Liaison Program connects neighbors with their local gov-

ernment. Liaisons work with neighborhood organizations, city staff, schools, civic groups and other jurisdictions. Your Neighborhood Liaison can help you and your neighbors with organizational and project assistance to maintain healthy, growing communities. Neighborhood Liaisons serve as an informational re-source about the city of Aurora and will help with good neighboring programs, mediation and negotiation ser-vices, grant resources and cultural inclusion and aware-ness programs. Neighborhood Liaisons can help facilitate neighborhood self-reliance through capacity building, or identifying residents’ strengths and expertise in benefit to the community. The Neighborhood Liaison Referral Program demonstrates the city’s commitment to involve residents in local government, and it enables neighbor-hood organizations to review and comment on land use and development cases prior to formal public hearings.

city services and other resources in the community as well as providing trainings about our diverse community.

NEIGHBORHOOD ENGAGEMENT PLANSEach neighborhood is unique in its people, its organi-zation and its challenges, and no one understands that better than the residents who live there. To create a better level of understanding between a neighborhood and the city, liaisons will host and facilitate a neighbor-hood meeting that includes city personnel from vari-ous departments to listen to residents identify and prioritize issues they see facing their community. As a result of the meeting, a plan will be created to identify ways the city and residents can work collaboratively to improve upon areas of concern. Examples of potential topics include traffic, pets and wildlife, neighborhood maintenance and public safety.

NEIGHBORHOOD REGISTRATIONBy registering your neighborhood, community group, business or homeowners’ association with this program, one designated contact from each group will receive notice of nearby proposed residential, commercial and industrial developments, as well as information on city programs and events. Neighborhood comments and suggestions result in better integration of devel-opment into our community.Any resident can review and comment on develop-

NEIGHBOR-TO-NEIGHBOR ROUNDTABLESRoundtable meetings are a great opportunity to network with other neighborhood leaders on topics of mutu-al interest or concern. These informal meetings are usually held on evenings at central locations throughout the year. Topics have included communication, fraud prevention, effective organizations, leadership develop-ment, planning review training and more. The round-tables are free and open to all Aurora residents. If you have an idea for a future roundtable topic, contact your Neighborhood Liaison.

FACILITATION, OUTREACH & EDUCATIONBuilding vibrant, cohesive neighborhoods is important to maintaining a healthy city with a high quality of life. To that end, liaisons are available to help open and

BLOCK PARTY PERMITSNeighborhood block parties build relationships with your neighbors. They are simple to plan, and liaisons are available to assist you in the process. Legally permitted barricades are available from the liaison program on a first-come, first-served basis and require a $75 refundable deposit. Applications are available on the city’s website – AuroraGov.org/liaisons – May 1 through Sept. 30. If a group wishes to hold its event in an Aurora city park, permits may be obtained by calling 303.739.7213.

NEIGHBORHOOD FENCE REPLACEMENTThis resident-initiated program assists interested neighborhoods in replacing deteriorating unsafe wooden fences along major streets with highly durable masonry or composite-material fences. This is accomplished by establishing either a Special Improvement District or a General Improvement District to finance the project. Both options involve a detailed process that the liaisons can explain to your neighborhood group. Learn more at AuroraGov.org/liaisons.
