LEWA offers a controller for the optimum monitoring of metering systems – the LEWA smart controlThe software makes it possible to save the characteristic curve of the LEWA pump with your allowable error bandwidth and adjusting range. The programmed learning function, i.e. the adaptive control, ensures a fast adjustment of the actual value without considerable settling time compared to conventional PID con-trollers. The actuating variable for the metering pump (motor speed and/or stroke length) and the measurement signal from the flow meter are per-manently checked for plausibility.
Integrated diagnostic functions dis-play deviations and malfunctions. The causes can thus be detected effi-ciently, which secures a high system availability. Even wear on the meter-ing pump is detected by the intelli-gent controller.
The developer team integrated LEWA’s expertise, that has been gath-ered over several decades and from a wide variety of industries.
In its basic design, the LEWA smart control regulates one metering line. The integration of frequency converter and external communication is done by an analog connection.
The following expansions are available: Upgrade to bus communication (e.g., Profibus, Profinet)
Larger touch panel (optional for use in potentially explosive zones I and II, too)
Modular expansions to a second metering line and/or to electrical stroke adjustment to extend the adjusting range
Monitoring of other parameters (e.g., level, conductivity) via addi-tional sensors
LEWA smart control is…
flexibleBy means of up to four actuators the controller regulates one or even two closed control loops. This allows the operator to control a redundant sys-tem or two completely independent metering systems with a single con-troller.

Via a 6” touch panel the operator can select from various screens and over-views (desired/actual value, graphical display, etc.)
easy to install and operator friendly
Easy start-up due to factory-provided pre-parameterization. The controller can be operated directly via the touch panel in your preferred language.
Due to the saved characteristic curve of the LEWA pump, LEWA smart control ensures a fast adjustment to the desired value within the shortest possible time

Fluid metering in practice
Examples where the operator gets maximum benefit from LEWA smart control:
Controlling the metering flow: If the process requires to maintain a continuous mass or volumetric flow, this flow has to be controlled flexibly and reliably, for example by injecting blowing agents during extrusion pro-cesses. Here, the speed of the extruder is the guide value for the dia-phragm metering pump. Using LEWA smart control, the blowing agent can be added proportionally to the extruder speed into the plastic melt.
Batch metering: This case occurs in all filling or refilling processes, for example if an adjustable metering volume in a tank must be tracked by level. This regulation type is also used if a reactor needs a specific quantity of a chemical agent metered accord-ing to a recipe. LEWA smart control masters this task with ease.
Manual metering is frequently encountered in practice – here, the speed of the metering flow can be adjusted manually with LEWA smart control. Metering can be started and stopped as required.
Mixing processes (such as dilution of caustic soda) are the most fre-quent use of metering systems in the processing industry. In these applica-tions, LEWA smart control handles the adjustment of two metering flows in the correct ratio.
