It is due to them that Indian arts and handicrafts is world famous.

What Are The Different Kinds of Handicrafts In India?

Our country is the manufacturing hub of diverse kinds of handicrafts, that have an identity in the international markets as well. Here are the most well-known forms:

CANE HANDICRAFTS:

The Cane products made with special cane handicraft arts, are a famous category which mostly include utilitarian items. Like baskets, trays, stylish furniture etc. the Vellore district of Tamil Nadu is the most famous for cane products in the country.

BAMBOO HANDICRAFTS:

We are one of the biggest producers of bamboo, and have several handicrafts made from the same, which are also highly eco-friendly. The varied items made from bamboo are dolls, toys, baskets, chalani, mats, furniture, wall-hangings, crossbows, umbrellas, khorahi, kula, kathi, dukula and much more. West Bengal is the hub when it comes to manufacturing bamboo products.

BONE AND HORN HANDICRAFTS:

This form of handicraft originated from Odisha, and famous for creating animal and bird figures. These almost look real and alive. Several everyday items like pen stands, ornaments, table lamps, cigarette cases, salt and pepper shakers, napkin rings, chess sets, laughing Buddha and much more are created with this form of craft. They are also prepared in Karnataka, Kerala and Uttar Pradesh along with Odisha.

CLAY HANDICRAFTS OR POTTERY: This form of handicraft first originated in the Indus Valley Civilization, clay and pottery handicrafts is the oldest orm of handcrafts in India.

The people who are engaged in pottery as a form of earning livelihood are called Kumhaars.

Teracotta is another form of pottery has got different forms like red ware, grey ware and black ware. Uttar Pradesh is famous for its painted black wares. Besides, Krishnanagar in West Bengal, Bikaner, Lucknow, Pune and Himachal Pradesh also make clay ware.
