Lessons from James 5
James: The “how-to” book of the Christian life. One of the most practical books in the New
Testament.Offers instruction and exhortation to all Christians,
no matter what stage we are in our growth.Quick summary:
Chapter 1: Profit from trials; doers, not just hearers. Chapter 2: Faith without works is dead. Chapter 3: Warnings about the tongue. Chapter 4: Humble, not proud; God is in control.
Lessons from James 5
James 5:1-20 God will judge those who oppress the poor. All idolized treasures will perish. To live in sinful pleasure is to provoke God’s
wrath. Under tribulations, have patience and meekness. Wait patiently for the coming of the Lord, just as
the farmer waits for his crops. With Job, God proved His compassion and mercy. Let us serve our God, even during our trials. Our eternal happiness is safe, if we trust in Him.
Lessons from James 5
James 5:1-20 (continued) We need to watch what we say and speak the truth. We should not use God’s name in a reckless manner. We must learn to confess our sins to elders, leaders
and other brethren. Prayers should be offered for the sick. Confession is a prerequisite to spiritual healing. The power of prayer was proven by Elijah. Not enough to say a prayer; we must pray in prayer. We are to have a positive influence on the lost.
Lessons from James 5
James 5:14-15 When we are humble enough to take the step of
confession, God will heal us (I John 1:8-10).James 5:16
Sharing your sins with someone else is an important part of the victory process.
James 5:17-18 Prayer is the means we are broken to God’s will.
James 5:8-9 Jesus can return at any moment (II Peter 3:10).
