Lesson 3-7 Dividing Integers
Objective: To be able to divide positive and negative integers. Standard: Number SenseIndicator(s): N5 Explain the meaning and effect of adding, subtracting integersN6 Simplify numerical expressions involving integers and use integers to solve real-life problems.N8 Develop and analyze algorithms for computing with percents and integers, and demonstrate fluency in their use.
You can divide any two numbers whether they are
(+) or (-).
Example -12 ÷ 6= ? Think, 12 ÷ 6 = 2. After you have completed your division,
concentrate on the positive & negative signs.
Here is the system for dividing integers… positive ÷ negative = negative negative ÷ positive = negative negative ÷ negative = positive positive ÷ positive = positive
Reminder: Integers are any whole number that is positive or negative. You can divide integers in an equation.
So, -12 ÷ 6= -2because… negative ÷ positive= negative
