Dear Friends,
On behalf of myself and our new Board of Directors, I would like to welcome you to the 2019-
2020 year of our Society. I’m excited to be writing to you as President. I have been on the board
for the past four years, and it’s with honor, joy and enthusiasm that I’m taking the lead of this
amazing society, and I know I’ve got big shoes to fill. Under Amelia Antonucci’s leadership, our
society went through many successes as well as difficult moments, but what we accomplished is undeniable. Last
year alone was extraordinary: we organized dozens of programs - including 15 events for the Leonardo 500 year
anniversary - we celebrated our own 70th anniversary, we launched our first scholarship program, and last but not
least, we were recognized for our work by the City of San Francisco. My special thanks goes to our past president,
Amelia, for building and leaving a strong and energized society.
Through all of our growth, we have remained true to our values: to promote a broader and deeper understanding
and appreciation of Italian contributions to art, literature and culture.
My goals for this year are simple: Be Present and Go Beyond. First, my interest is to focus on our members - get
to know you better, understand your expectations and interests. Second, I’m committed to continue working on
quality events that can feed different generations of Italo enthusiasts who live in our area, increasing participa-
tion, retention and attracting new members. But most importantly, I want to “go beyond” to make our cultural
events true opportunities for gathering, networking, and creating new relationships from which we will all learn
and grow as a society and as individuals. Ultimately, it’s people who add value to an organization. You - our mem-
bers - are the backbone of our society and I am ready to work with all of you. Let’s all be present and go beyond!
