Legal FrameworkWhat is it?• The Legal Framework is a template in an electronic
format that summarizes state and federal requirements for special education by topic.
– Black—Document• “If it’s in black, it must be in black and white.”
– Blue—Practice• “If it’s in blue, it’s something you must do.”
Who uses it?• Administrators, Educators, Parents, Others
Legal Citations• Legal references– IDEA 2004– Texas Education Code– Texas Administrative Code– Other Legal Sources
• Only part of frameworks not translated into Spanish
When do you use the Legal Framework?– Anytime that a question arises
Why use it?– Improve the quality of services – Provide accurate (real time) and
accessible information
• Location, location, location• No cost, free to all users• Dynamic (updated constantly)--not
obsolete
