Helping children with special needs and their families prepare for the
challenges of the future.
Children are admitted to the program without discrimination
on the basis of race, religion, sex, disability, color,
national origin, ancestry or source of payment.
Cost InformantionWe bill insurance for various therapies, however
many insurance companies do not cover the full cost
of the program. Therefore, a scholarship fund has been
established by The Foundation for Shawnee Mission
Medical Center to assist families in the education and
therapy of their children with special needs. No child is
ever turned away due to the family’s inability to pay.

Our PurposeThrough an emotionally supportive environment, the Britain
Center staff helps family and friends adjust their expectations
and way of life as they learn to raise and nurture a child with
special needs. Children of the Britain Center have needs that
are not addressed by typical educational or medical models.
Simply offering hours of therapy in a clinical environment
does not heal parents of their fears and anxiety, or prepare
them for the challenges of nurturing a child with special
needs. The approach of the Britain Center is to view the
family and the child as inseparable in the treatment and
educational process. With family and friends as partners,
there is strength, built on love, which enables each child to
reach his or her greatest potential.
