Choice of Access pointsWhat are access points? These are the headings entered in

a catalog. Examples are: author entry heading subject entry headings title entry heading added entry headingsNote: One of these headings is the

main entry heading, usually the author entry heading.

Author as main entry headingThe author’s name is written in an

inverted order, that is, family name first followed by given name then middle name.

Examples:Day-Lewis, Carol (Compound surname)dela Cruz, Juan (Filipino)Cruz, Felipe dela (Spanish)de Castro, Noli (Filipino)

Personal authorshipA personal author is the person

chiefly responsible for the creation of the intellectual or artistic content of a work. Therefore, the author is the main entry heading.

Example:The sun also rises / by Ernest Hemingway Main entry heading: Hemingway, Ernest

I.F. Stone’s newsletter Main entry heading: Stone, I.F.

Entry under corporate bodyA corporate body is an organization or

a group of persons that is identified by a particular name and that acts, or may act, as an entity.

Entry Under TitleEnter a work under its title proper

when:a) The personal authorship is

unknown or diffuse, and the work does not emanate from a corporate body;

In short, you cannot find the author or there is no author indicated on the book.

Entry Under TitleEnter a work under its title proper

when:b) It is a collection of works by

different persons or bodies.This means that the book is just a

collection of article or research and that the cataloger cannot determine the personal author of the book.

Entry Under TitleEnter a work under its title proper

when:c) There are more than three authors

or the responsibility of the person is just editor or compiler.

This means the person responsible for the creation of the artistic content of the book can no longer be determined.

Note: The format should be hanging indention
