Lead from the front of the Room
We shared what we knew
We read from slides like these
Our audience left confused
I wish I knew what I was
supposed to get from that !
Should you Lead From the Front?
50/50 chance
When you don’t:
It’s a roll of the dice about whether or not
You are actually leading your audience to do what you want them to do

Me

• The Format
if you focus on:
You will lead from the front of the room
Material
• Sift through, what is nice to know vs .need to know
• Make it digestable, gain influence
The Material
You will have too much information
• Edit it by asking yourself:
– If they don’t understand this then what I am telling them does not make sense
– If they do not know
how to do this, then they will not be able to do this
Be relentless in asking:
What is nice for them to know
VSWhat do they need
to know
The Audience
Find out the answers to
these questions
• What do they know about your topic
• How are they going to benefit (WIIFM)
• Why are they interested in this subject
But, most importantly
What do you want them to THINK or be able to DO
When they walk out the door:
What do they know about your
topic
• Is this completely new• Is this a refresher• Is it too basic
How do I benefit from this OR What is in it for me?
(WIIFM)
The benefits you state (confidence, more skills, Money, love of your life)
+Their own
conclusions
Why Do I (insert name) Care?(Hint: make it personal)
•If you know something about them, this is the time to show it .
•Relate to them
• Give some common knowledge, assumptions or applications about what you are telling them
Make it Personal
