What is Jurassic Salmon?

www.jurassicsalmon.pl

Jurassic Salmon is a modern RAS Salmon farm, first in theworld using geothermal water which is 150 milion yearsold and one of three facilities in the world producing salmon fromegg to harvest size.

Origin of the name: Jurassic – our geothermal water comes from Lower Jura periodSalmon – species of farmed fish

What is Jurassic Salmon?

It took only one year for investors to choose technology supplierand general contractor, obtain project of the farm, funds from EUand from one of the banks, get all permisions and start constructionworks.

Electricity

Current sources of electrical power: local supplier + 2 power generators

Plan for the future: photovoltaics or biogas facility to reduce production costs

Impact on environment

Water sources

Water sources: own boreholes for both fresh and saltwater, which ensures highlevel of culture safety – from the very beginning fish have no contact with external watersources, inhabited by aquatic organisms.Because of the fact, that fish is cultured in closed systems, there is no threat of fishescapes to rivers and seas. Also sea lice problem does not affect RAS farms.

Water exchange: each stage of production has its’ own biological biofilter, treated water isrecirculating constantly with 5 – 15% daily water exchange.

Water treatment

Water which is releasing to the environment is treated in denitrification facility: nitrogenand phosphorus compounds are binded and removed from the water, which afterdenitrification stage is used for temperature regulation. Condensed feces separatedfrom the water are used as a fertiliser in agriculture.

Calorific value of condensed feces is an interesting issue to determine.

Production security

www.jurassicsalmon.pl

To secure salmon production in Jurassic Salmon we have:• 2 power generators• cryo oxygen tank • emegrency oxygen – double protection: automatic and manual• monitoring system with set of alarms• deironing water treatment for geotermal water• heat pumps for temperature control• water cooling agregate for geotermal water

Optimizing of production plan and production costs

- Number of eggs per batch, densities on each stages- Feed- Electrical power- Salt, lime, acid- Oxygen- Labor

Challanges

www.jurassicsalmon.pl

Early maturation

- Quality decreacement: Early maturated fish are less valuable and can not be sold as superior quality

- Financial loses: 5-40% of fish amount can be affected- Early maturated fishes are releasing hormones to water and

enhance other fish to mature

Challanges

Scientific projects

- Early maturation- Biodiversity- Waste (water, feces) management- Heat management

Cooperation with: West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin, University of Szczecin, Koszalin University of Technology

Challanges

Certificates

- ASC for production- BRC and IFS for processing- BIO certificate, when possible for RAS systems

Challanges

www.jurassicsalmon.pl

Biosecurity- Limited entries to the facility- Meetings held on antresole- No acces to production areas
