WEEK 1 TERM 4 18th October 2019
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
Welcome back to our final term of 2019. I cannot believe how fast it has flown. I hope everybody had a res ul and happy holiday and is ready for the huge term of learning and extra‐curricular ac vi es.
I had the opportunity to a end Father Paul’s special service for the Year 12 students on the last day of the holidays. I would like to thank him for doing this on behalf of his parish. I know the whole staff and myself would like to wish the Year 12 students all the best with their exams over the next few weeks. Study hard, but take me to relax as well as you will be be er for it.
I am looking forward to the next few weeks as I don’t have any commitments away from the school (yet!) I’m actually looking forward to ‘going back to school’. I plan to try to visit every classroom this term for a whole day to further get to know all of our students and the fantas c learning that is happening in their classes.
Over the next couple weeks I am convening various panels to fill teaching posi ons at our school for next year. I thank the commitment of the AECG and P&C in par cipa ng in this process to find the best quality applicants. I am hoping that we will have filled all posi ons within our school for 2020 by the end of the year.
This term we have been iden fied for a huge project coordinated by Youth Off the Streets. Their team will predominately working with Year 7 about engagement but they will also be working with other year groups throughout the term. This is a huge opportunity for our school and I know the students will get a lot out of the programs.
Please ensure you check the calendar in the news‐le er on a weekly basis to keep up to date with what is happening in the school. If you need confir‐ma on on any dates please don’t hesitate to call the front office or speak to your child’s classroom teacher.
Yours in Educa on,

$4.50 per student. There is no cost to students who
have paid school fees.
Each week this term I will be sharing with you some tips to assist your child further develop their literacy and numeracy skills from home to compliment the learning your child is doing at school. To kick off the term I’ve compiled some tips on helping your child develop their speaking and listening skills.
Regularly talking and interacting with your child extends their language and listening skills, and helps to grow their confidence with language.
Ways to support this growth include:
- Sharing rhymes, poems and songs and encourage your child to join in.
- Talk about family histories and family photos
- Look at picture books and artworks. Ask your child to describe what it happening in the pictures and make up a story together.
- Look at junk mail together and talk about the things on sale.
- Listen to simple radio programs or podcasts together and discuss the content.
- Play vocabulary games with your child such as ‘what’s the opposite of….?’, and ‘what’s another word for….?’ https://www.education.vic.gov.au/Documents/school/teachers/teachingresourcesCY

Have a go at drawing this image based on the instructions as a family and compare what everyone draws.
Which One Doesn’t Belong and Why?
As a family, see if you can think of a reason for each of these dice to ‘not belong’.
Use talk moves such as
I agree with …. because…
I disagree with … because…
Can you explain that further…
My thinking has changed now because….
The purpose of this activity is to allow everyone to contribute to a mathematical problem and provide reasoning for their thinking.
The great thing about this routine is that there are no wrong answers, as long as your reasoning is true. The focus is not on the answer, but on you being able to communicate your reasoning.

connection– is the key to personal and
career success’
