IF YOU PLAY AWAY
1. All games played must be posted; those played
away, as well as those played on your home course.
2. For away play, ask Pro Shop for Slope Number and
Course Rating. Note this on scorecard if not printed
there.
3. Use Golf Course Conversion Table booklet to
determine your handicap on any particular course.
Look up page for Slope Number, find range
containing your Index number, then read across to
find your handicap for that particular course.
4. On away scorecard, fill in total 9-hole score,
Handicap used for that course, net, and adjusted
score. If you play 18 holes, it is treated as two 9-hole
games and you have two adjusted scores to post.
5. You may post adjusted score either on computer at
course where round was played or on computer at
LOP upon returning home. For away play, follow
screen directions for posting “guest” score.
TRANSPORTATION FEES
Pay driver according to chart posted on bulletin board
and web page.
71
LOP LOCAL RULES
All tournament play shall follow USGA/WNHGA rules,
subject to the following “local” rules:
1. Summer rules always apply unless otherwise
directed by Pro Shop. For winter rules you may lift,
clean and place ball without penalty within a club
length from where ball originally lay, in like grass,
not nearer hole.
2. Out of bounds is defined by inside edge of white
4x4 posts or lines, boundary fences, or roads (4x4
posts are not obstructions; therefore, there is no
relief and they may not be removed). A ball is “out
of bounds” when all of it is out of bounds. Penalty
is one stroke and distance.
3. Distance markers give distance to center of green
and are located on cart paths and colored disks and
stakes in fairways. (Blue=200 yds., white=150 yds.,
red=100 yds., and gold=50 yds.) Some sprinkler
heads are also labeled for distance.
4. Water hazards are defined by yellow stakes and/or
yellow lines. LOP water hazards are pond in front of
#4 green and creeks on #12, #13, #14, #17 and #18.
A ball touching hazard line is in the hazard. You
may not ground your club in hazard.
5. Lateral water hazards are defined by red stakes
and/or red lines. LOP lateral water hazards are
creeks on #8, lake on #12, and creek at the base of
hill right of #6 fairway.
72
A ball touching hazard line is in the hazard. You
may not ground your club in hazard.
6. Ground under repair is any portion of course
roped off or marked by white lines around GUR
area. Player must remove ball from GUR and drop
(without penalty) within one club length of the
nearest point of relief, not nearer the hole.
7. Relief with no penalty (ball dropped within one
club length of nearest point of relief, not nearer the
hole) may be taken from obstructions, i.e., French
drains, cart paths, staked trees, sprinkler heads,
embedded rocks in fairways, catch boards to right of
#3 green, catch boards to right of #4 fairway, and
protective fence behind #4 green, including line of
sight (take relief between end of fence and Torrey
Pines).. Out-of-bounds posts and tee signs are not
obstructions but are permanent parts of golf course;
therefore, relief is not allowed.
8. Erosion in Bunkers--Ball may be lifted, cleaned,
and dropped as near as possible to spot where it lay,
but no nearer to hole, and must remain in bunker.
9. Pace of Play – All golfers should have a pace of
play to complete nine holes in 2-1/2 hours or less.
Slow players may be asked to pick up balls and
proceed to next tee.
73
10. Hole # 6 – Choice of red, green combo or gold tees,
which the player needs to indicate on the sign-up
sheet. When hitting off the Hole # 6 red or green
combo tees, if you fail to get to the bottom or are
unable to find your ball, you may take a drop to the
left of the cart path, adjacent to gold tees, take a 1
stroke penalty and hit your third stroke and you may
not tee up again. This is a WNHGA/USGA
approved rule and is allowed during TOC, Team
Play or any WNHGA event. You are not allowed to
hit your ball from the wooded hill area as it is
unsafe. You also have the option to hit again from
the red tee, take a 1 stroke penalty and hit your 3rd
shot. You will need to continue hitting until you get
to the fairway, taking 1 stroke penalty each time,
until you reach your maximum number of strokes.
NOTE: Every golfer should have a current USGA
Rules of Golf book to refer to when needed. If in
doubt, contact Rules Chair or Golf Pro to interpret
rules.
74
PACE OF PLAY
All Niners should have a pace of play to complete nine
holes in 2-1/2 hours or less (3 hours or less in winter
when cart paths only).
• Play “ready golf” and keep up with group ahead of
you.
• Take only one practice swing.
• Tee off promptly –don’t always wait for someone else
to go first.
• Don’t dally after teeing off – quickly make room for
next golfer.
• Keep track of your own ball and watch ball flights of
others in your foursome.
• Plan with your partner for most efficient movement of
golf cart, i.e.:
• Don’t stray too far from golf cart.
• Park to avoid “circling” cart to get to ball.
• Know ahead which club you are going to use on next
shot or take an ample selection of clubs when leaving
golf cart.
• Carry at least one “provisional” ball in your pocket at
all times.
• Hit a “provisional” ball if you’re not sure whether
your ball is in or out of bounds
• Limit search for lost balls to 5 minutes.
• Leave greens immediately when hole is completed,
recording scores at next tee.
• Walk as swiftly as possible to and from cart, on
fairways between shots, and on greens between shots
and retrieving ball from hole.
No “chit-chat” or ordering lunch until scorecards are
submitted to Tournament Table after Sweeps play.

20 or more 10
Picking Up - If you pick up on a hole, POST your
maximum-per-hole score for your handicap. There is no
limit to how many holes you may pick up. However,
picking up during a tournament (including Sweeps) may
result in disqualification.
Incomplete Round – If you play 7 holes and do not
play remainder, for any hole you do not play, POST par
plus the handicap stokes (pops) for hole.
Example – A player with a USGA index of 17.5
plays a 127 Slope course, which gives her a Course
Handicap of 20. For handicap purposes, she is
allowed a maximum score of 10 on any hole. There
is no limit to the number of holes reduced to 10 in
the round, so she can quickly scan her scorecard to
locate any hole scores of 11 or higher and reduce
them to the score of 10. The reduction is applied to
allow a maximum score of 10, no matter what par
of holes may be. Also, this player will find that at a
lower slope course of 124 with a Course Handicap
of 19, her maximum score will be 9. .
