Expositional Sermon byPastor Juanito D. Samillano Jr.
IBCP GREDU, PANABO CITY PHILIPPINES.
Are you in love?
Mark 12; 28-30 NJKV 28 Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that
He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?” 29 Jesus
answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our
God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your
soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.
Theme; Love Love is not enough. It must be the
FOUNDATION, the CORNERSTONE - but not the complete structure. It is much too pliable,
(Workable), too yielding.Bette Davis (1908 - 1989)
In the Bible, the word love is mentioned more than 500 times close to 700 times depending on which version
you are reading. In the King James Version, it’s mentioned 508 in the old testament and 697 in the new
testament. Ask, Com.
7 steps that Satan’s does to oppose love!
1; Regression- failures of reading the bible. 2; Repression- no longer expresses
gratitude. 3; Suppression- Never talk the Love of God
to anyone, they focus on self. 4; Depression- lost of hope. 5; Oppression- Over powered by the devil,. 6; Obsession- Surrounded by the Devil. 7; Possession- total controlled by the Devil.
The Scribe!
A member of a learned class in ancient Israel through New Testament times studying the
Scriptures and serving as copyists, editors, and teachers,!
Today their job description is lawyer!
“All”- Jesus used this word 4 times! Why?
TO TELL TO HIS LISTENERS THAT THE MOST VALUABLE THINGS IN THE
SCRIPTURES IS LOVE!
“Heart”
Heart- a muscular organ in vertebrates that receives blood from the veins and
pumps it through the arteries to oxygenate the blood during its circuit.
- (let us put our hands on our hearts)
What is your observation?
A; Active-it reminds us that we should be active as we serve the Lord!
B; Increases the beating when we are tired- increase or Decrease of Love !
C; Responsive -it reminds us of our response
to God after hearing of his Message!
D; Push your hands slowly - it signifies to us that we must move on during crisis and hard times!
1 Samuel 13:14 after Saul’s failure, God had "sought
Him a man after His own heart."
Isaiah 38;3 ESVHezekiah said, “Please, O LORD,
remember how I have walked before you in faithfulness and with a whole heart, and have
done what is good in your sight.”
Loving God using our Heart is telling us of…
A; Secret of success- this was the secret of the great men and women and the bible history.
Psalm 37:25I was young and now I am old, yet I have never
seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.
B; Secrets of extension of God’s Favor- King Hezekiah was decreed that he will die but because he served the Lord whole heartedly, his life extended for 15 more years!
The word “Soul”
Soul/ Spirit- The spiritual nature of humans, regarded as immortal, separable from the body at death, and subject to happiness or
misery in a future state. the soul was mentioned by Jesus next to
heart this shows to us that… LOVING GOD NOT ONLY BY GIVING
OUR MATERIAL THINGS BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT IS OUR SPIRIT.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 NIVand the dust returns to the ground
it came from, and the SPIRIT returns to God who gave it.
MINDThe human consciousness
that originates in the brain and is manifested especially in thought,
perception, will, memory, and imagination.
(Close your eyes, what first comes in your
minds?)
Most common things that comes on our mind!
Loving God with all our mind is telling us..!
WE SHOULD INCLUDE OUR CHURCH ON OUR PLANS!
What do I need to do, to help my church? Do I give my tithes faithfully?
Will I support my Pastor? Will I give my pledge this coming thanks
giving? Shall I commit myself to the vision of this
church?
The word “strength”
Strength- the capacity of an
object or substance to withstand
(survive) great force or pressure!
Observe the word strength from this verse!
V 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your STRENGHT.’ This is the first
commandment. Jesus mentioned the word strength at the last
portion of the verse! TO REMIND US, THAT WE SHOULD PUT
STRENGHT/ EFFORT WHEN WE DECIDE TO LOVE THE LORD WITH OUR HEART,
SOUL AND MIND.
