What is Digital Certificate ?

A Digital Certificate ”An attachment to an electronic message used for security

purposes.”

Like a driver's license, a passport, a student ID, a library card, or other commonly used personal

IDs,.

Encryption: Encryption is converting of Plain Text into cipher Text.

Decryption- Decryption is reversing encryption via the use of Public and Private Keys

Public key- Public key is made accessible to everyone.

Private key- Private key remains confidential to its respective owner.

There are four main types of digital certificates :-1. Server Certificates. 2. Personal Certificates.3. Organisation Certificate.4.Developer Certificates.

Certification Authorities are the digital world’s equivalent to passport offices. They issue digital certificates and validate holders’ identity and authority.

What is the Process of obtaining a certificate?

1. sender generates a public\private key pair.  Applies to CA for digital certificate with the public key.  

2.CA verifies senders identity and issues digital certificate containing the public key.  

3.CA publishes certificate to public, on-line repository.  

4.sender signs message with private key and sends message to second party.  

5. Receiving party verifies digital signature with sender's public key and Recive message.
