Visual Perception Theory

A basic assumption behind all types of perception theory is that the physical world does not consist of coherent visual patterns that we humans simply pick up with our eyes as we go through life.

Types of Processes

1. Top-down Perception involves making inferences about what we see and trying to make a best guess (interpretation).―Richard Gregory (1970)

2. Bottom-upWhat you see if what you get (direct perception). There is no need for interpretation.―James Gibson (1966)
