Kenmore CC Hall leads a double life
If you only come tothe monthly potluckyou might not knowthat the club’s hallleads a double life. The old girl, built in1934, is actually a bitof a party girl, hosting a wide arrayof parties rangingfrom milestonebirthdays, popbands, weddingreceptions and familyreunions. But it is notall fun and games, there are memorials, meetings and even political events. The South SnohomishRepublicans recently held their caucus here.
In fact, hall rental is the biggest source of revenue for the Kenmore CommunityClub, and more importantly makes it a community gathering place, which is partof the club’s mission.
Managed by Annette Eaton, hall rental is more than keeping the schedule andcollecting the rental fees. Annette also opens the hall before events, oftencontacting nearby businesses to ask for their patrons to vacate the parking lotand making sure the hall is ready for the event host to set up the chairs, tables,or dance floor as needed for the event. When the event is over, she ensures thegroup cleans up and she cleans the restrooms to make the hall ready for thenext group.
If you belong to a group, or have a big event coming up, you can schedule anevent by calling Annette at 425-486-1555 to reserve the date and times youneed. The cost is $60/hour with a two-hour minimum Sunday through Thursday,Friday there is a four-hour minimum, and Saturdays, the minimum is six hours.

Kenmore water taxi a step closer after Council vote
The King County Council voted Feb. 8 to further study of two Lake Washington routes and an Elliot Bayroute for a water taxi service. Kenmore, Kirkland and Ballard were selected from 37 initial routes considered, according to the Bothell-Kenmore Reporter. The Kenmore Log Boom to UW Light Rail station, the Kirkland Marina to UW Light railstation, and Ballard to downtown were the three selected for further study. The Kenmore service would involve a shuttle from the Kenmore Park and Ride to the taxi terminal at LogBoom Park, but parking remains a significant obstacle. The morning transit is projected to add 26 minutesto the average commute time from Kenmore to Downtown, but is expected to cut the evening commutetime.Read more …

Hearing on St. Edwards Seminary development
sparks heated debate
The Feb. 9 Washington State ParksCommission public hearing in Kenmoregenerated a heated debate on theproposal for a hotel and conferencecenter at the historic St. Edwards StatePark.
To acquire the seminary, developer KevinDaniels has proposed deeding to thestate 10 acres of undeveloped landimmediately north of the park thatincludes 450 feet of Lake Washington waterfront.
In return, Daniels Real Estate would acquire the former school buildings, including a pool and gymnasium, about 5.5 acres in all. The rest of the property– about 310 acres – would remain a state park.
The opposition group, Citizens for St. Edwards State Park, which
blocked the McMenamins’ and other commercial proposals for the site over the
past decade continued its strong opposition to the proposal. Theysaid said they’d rather the seminary fall into ruin than introduce a private hoteland conference center into their tranquil park, according to the Seattle Times.
They’ve collected about 2,200 signatures on a petition and posted yard signsaround the community warning against “selling out St. Ed’s." A final decision onthe proposal is expected in May.
