KEITH HARING
KEITH HARING (1958-1990)- KH was born in Reading, PA. He went to art
school in Pittsburgh (dropped out) before moving to NYC.
- He found his art style - “Street Art” - in NYC.- He began to create chalk drawings in the
subways which gained the attention of the public and the police.
KEITH HARING- His work became famous and he opened up a
store called The Pop Shop to sell posters, t-shirts, buttons, etc… with his artwork on them.
- He worked with children in schools to paint large murals with them, and he made paintings and sculptures for schools and hospitals in many places.
Street Art- Graffiti was a controversial topic in
1980s-1990s NYC.- Many people think it brings crime or is only
done by criminals.- Street Art is illegal if done on any property
without permission.

In 1988, Keith Haring was diagnosed with AIDS. He died 2 years later.
He was 31 years old.
