La Ascensión

El segundo misterio glorioso del Santo Rosario es el misterio de la Ascensión del Señor, que celebramos hoy en este 7º

domingo de Pascua.

Al meditar sobre este misterio, la virtud que pedimos es la esperanza.

La esperanza es la virtud que nos permite confiar en el amor y cuidado de Dios, especialmente cuando estamos tentados a desanimarnos, llenarnos de dudas o incluso desesperarnos de Su presencia en nuestras vidas.

La esperanza es la virtud que permite que busquemos Su misericordia y perdón, aun

cuando volvemos a caer en el mismo pecado una y otra vez.

La esperanza es la virtud que nos permite creer que nosotros u otros que sufren de adicciones podrán, alguna vez de alguna manera estar abiertos a la maravillosa gracia de Dios, la que rompe el ciclo del comportamiento destructivo.

“Estamos salvados, pero todo es esperanza.” (Romanos 8:24)…que el don de la esperanza que Dios nos dio en nuestro Bautismo, nos sostenga hoy y siempre.

Ascension

The second glorious mystery of the Rosary is the mystery of the Ascension of our Lord, which we celebrate today on this 7th Sunday of Easter.

The virtue we pray for in meditating on this mystery is hope.

Hope is the virtue that enables us to trust in God’s love and care and concern for us, especially in those moments when we are tempted to become discouraged, doubtful or even despairing of His presence in our lives.

Hope is the virtue that enables us to seek His mercy and forgiveness, even when we find ourselves falling into the same pattern of sin over and over again.

Hope is the virtue that enables us to believe that we - or others who struggle with addictions - will somehow and in some way be open to the amazing grace of God that breaks the cycle of self-destructive behavior.

“In hope we are saved” (Romans 8:24) … may hope, which is God’s gift to us in our Baptism, sustain us now and forever.

the last, the beginning and the end.”– Revelations 22:13

This is a reminder of how we should live our lives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – putting God first in all that we do. Not only when I am at Mass and parish activities, but when I am in the world, at work or at school. Living gratefully and generously is a lifestyle; it should influence how I make all my daily decisions.

Los 50 Días de PascuaPentecostés: 9 de junio; Corpus Christi: 23 de junio

“Vayan, pues, dice el Señor; Yo estoy con ustedes todos los días hasta el fin de la historia.”

Esta exhortación del Evangelio es el mensaje de Jesús a sus discípulos antes de ascender al cielo. Una vez más, los discípulos tenían miedo al pensar que Jesús los iba a dejar; así como tuvieron miedo al encontrar la tumba vacía. El mensaje de Jesús a sus discípulos hace 2,000 años, y para nosotros hoy día, es de esperanza y gozo. Jesús está con nosotros siempre en la Eucaristía y nos llama a participar en la misión de la Iglesia de orar, amarnos los unos a los otros, y servir a los necesitados. Finalmente, la asecención de Jesús a los cielos es un signo de que cuando seguimos sus caminos en la tierra, lo seguiremos a Él hacia el cielo.

The 50 Days of EasterPentecost: June 9; Corpus Christi: June 23

“Go and teach all nations, says the Lord; I am with you always, until the end of the world.”

This exhortation from the Gospel Acclamation is Jesus’ message to the disciples before he ascended to heaven. The disciples were once again frightened at the thought of Jesus leaving them; just as they were frightened when they found the empty tomb. Jesus’ message for the disciples 2,000 years ago, and for us today, is one of hope and joy. Jesus is with us always in the Eucharist and calls us to participate in the mission of the Church to pray, love one another, and serve those in need. Ultimately, Jesus’ ascension into heaven is a sign that when we follow his ways on earth, we will follow him to heaven.

Program Option: Family Faith Formation Registration is open for K-12 Faith Formation classes. With today’s busy schedules, many families find it a challenge to enroll in a weekly faith formation class. To address this need, Good Shepherd has a Family Faith Formation session which guides parents in their own faith formation, and in handing their faith down to their children. • Parents meet once per month on a Monday evening to

learn more about our Catholic faith as well as concrete ways to live that faith in your family’s daily life.

• In addition, approximately once a month, families come together as a small group community for special gatherings.

Dads Helping Dads!Support young or struggling fathers in Fairfax County.

Volunteer facilitators needed to teach parenting classes designed for fathers who struggle with parenting or with engaging with their children who may be within the child welfare system. Requirements include:• must be a father at least 30 years old, • must have experience with the child welfare system as a

client or a professional. • need to be reliable, accepting, patient, honest, flexible,
