August 2017 Calendar Notes
• 1 August: This is the first day of practice for fall athletics. Note that all sports (except cheer, which had try-outs in the spring and summer) are open try-outs/open participation teams. However, it is much advised that team members train actively during the summer. JPII runs competitive teams and plays in very competitive 4A districts within our league (TAPPS), such that players and teams must be able to compete at a high level. August is not the month to begin preparing for the season.
• 7 August: Teachers report back to campus; they will be in meetings and in preparation during the day.
• 9 August: Campus offices are closed all day for a retreat for faculty. Fall teams will still practice that day in late afternoon.
• 14 August: All School/All Family BBQ – 6-8 p.m. ALL families!
• 16 August: 8 a.m.: Student Retreat – this is our annual tradition, to renew our core virtues and begin year in prayer and with Mass. Mass will be at St. Hedwig Blessed Annunciation. Dress is Blue & Gold, with the Navy Blue JOHN PAUL II Shirt.
• 17 August: Full school day in uniform.
• 21 August: Back to School Night, Parents meet all the teachers & learn more about each class their students are taking.
• 29 August: On the 29th of every month (or nearest school day, our community is invited to wear their red Travis shirts (with jeans) in honor of our good friend the late Mr. Mike Travis.

This includes hall decorations, pep rally cheers, and special dress days. Thursday Night is the volleyball game, with the goal of packing the gym in support of our school. Friday’s football game will include a tailgate party, and then Saturday evening is the Homecoming Dance. All students are encouraged to attend all events: 100% participation is our goal.
