Sermon Outline

Making Oak Trees Isaiah 61:1-3 – The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim free-dom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of glad-ness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor. Oak Tree Project is a scholarship fund and mentoring program for Korean orphans who get into college. Korean orphans are on their own after they graduate from high school and are in great need of financial and emotional support. This program enables them to succeed and keeps them accountable until they graduate. Five Keys to Mentoring

1. The purpose of mentoring is not to pamper or maintain, rather it is to ____________________ someone up.

Sympathy encourages a victim mentality. Rebukes in love demonstrate belief and hope for more. 2. Your testimony and your model will ________________ who you mentor.

3. You need to know where the person you’re mentoring is at. 4. __________________ is the most important ingredient.

Sermon Notes

The amount you can _____________ someone’s love will always determine how open your heart is to them and how much love you will allow in. 5. Your ___________________ must be the same as Christ. Philippians 2:5-11: Jesus gave up all for us. He gave up all entitlement and demanded no results from God. His sole desire was to obey the Father. If you would like to sign up for John-Michael’s prayer updates from Korea or for Oak Tree Project’s prayer updates, please see the signup sheets in the lobby or please talk to one of the Beckers.

ANDY & ANNIE PLATT GLOBAL SCHOLARS

Global Scholars is an organization dedicated to the idea that every university student in the world should have at least one professor who can articulate the message of the gospel and demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ. They seek to bring together Christian professors of any

field with a classroom position in secular universities world-wide, helping to develop godly lead-ers around the world. Andy (who was an Associate Pastor at The Journey from 2010-2013) and Annie and their family are affiliated with Global Scholars. Andy will be teaching at a university in Central China. They ask prayers concerning their endeavors there, that they could be diligent and professional stew-ards of the knowledge God has given them in their efforts to impart it to others, and that their lives and family life could be ready witnesses to His gospel.

RENOVATION HELP NEEDED MONDAY, JUNE 23RD If you head downstairs this week, you will see some major chang-es down there! The old ceiling is out and concrete has been poured for new bathrooms just to name a couple. This week some walls in the main area will be built, but before they can do that, we need a few people who are into destruction to come and help remove the stage. And if you have a reversible drill

that you can bring to help take out screws, all the better. If you can come on Monday between 6.30 and 7 to help, please see Don Davis or email him at Donald.a.davis@usace.army.mil (or let Judy know, she knows where he lives!).
