Joshua and the Shimbly and the Missing Petals

by AJ Hunter

One night Joshua and the Shimbly were fast asleep. Their adventures from the previous day had been very exhausting.

When they awoke in the morning they realized that their petals had gone missing! Without their petals they were unable to fly!

Just as panic was about to set in, they received a visit from the Palm Spring!

Boing!

Boing!

Boing!

“Joshua, we need your help!” bounced the Palm Spring. “You need to come with me right away!”

The Shimbly quickly shuffled up to the Palm Spring. Apparently the two plants had met before.

“Jothua wiw not be going anywhewe wif the wikes of you!” shook the lopsided Shimbly.

“Shimbly. I always thought less of you would be an improvement, but you’re even uglier!” vibrated the Palm Spring.

Joshua did not want to leave the Shimbly, but the Palm Spring had found some baby birds that had fallen out of their nest. And the Palm Spring insisted that the Shimbly was too heavy to carry.

“Fwibberty gibbit!”

Boing!

"See ya, sucker!"

The Shimbly decided to head back to its home soil. It would be a long journey since he could no longer fly, and the Shimbly’s roots were not made for walking.

As the Shimbly scooted past an old hut it noticed something at the top of a tall tree.

It was the petal the Shimbly gave to Joshua! The Shimbly wondered how it got so high in the tree in the first place and how to get it down.

The Plam Spring took Joshua to a tree house. “The baby birds are up there! Get in the tree house quick!” teetered the Palm Spring.

Something didn’t seem right about the situation to Joshua. What were the baby birds doing in the tree house?

Just as Joshua was about to climb the ladder they saw the Shimbly fly towards them like a helicopter. It had found a new petal!

Joshua was very happy to see the Shimbly, however the Palm Spring was not.

“Joshua! I totally found your petal, little ankle-biter!” swayed the Shimbly. “It was all, like, far out man! I had to borrow this groovy shirt to get it!”

The Shimbly then confronted the Palm Spring. “Hey man, wanna clue me in to who can jump high enough to put that petal up in a tree?!”

“You accusing me of something, grass lover?!” flickered the Palm Spring.

As the Shimbly and Palm Spring worked out their issue Joshua decided to investigate the tree house.

He flew up to one of the windows to peek inside. Only he did not see any baby birds...

It was a trap! He swooped down and pulled the Shimbly to safety as fast as he could. Some adventures require a good escape.

“Noxious weed!”

“Hash brain!”

The end.

"He didn't fall for it"
