“Waiting for the World to Change” 00:00 Intro- The song starts with 8 counts played by the piano and guitar.
It’s accompanied by clapping. John counts the song in, “1,2,3,1,2,3,4”. The song is in a 4/4 meter and is played in the major key.
:15 Verse 1- The melody is conjunct and the verse is only four lines. The clapping carries a steady beat.
:38 Chorus 1- Back up singers join in and sing, “keep on waiting”. This song is very repetitious but I thing that’s why it’s so popular and famous. It’s one of those songs that you hear the chorus and will always remember. The chorus is played in a higher key, adding height and range to the song.
Album of the Year

“Vultures” 00:00 Intro- The song starts out with the electric guitar playing softly. The
song is played in the major key. The electric guitar is accompanied only by a keyboard for the first 16 beats, which are repetitive. The introduction defiantly sets the tone and mood for the rest of the song.
:22 Verse 1- John Mayer starts singing, he has a tenor voice that has a very broad range. He is the only one who sings until the very end of the song.
:44 Chorus 1- This is where you really hear the range in John’s voice. He is singing the chorus at least tow octaves higher. The drums stop at this time which doesn’t allow for such a strong beat. The dynamics change most drastically here. The pitch goes higher and stays high until 1:11.
1:06 Chorus 1- This is still the chorus but the singing stops here and the electric guitar does a solo. The tempo picks up, building up to verse 2. The drums are introduced back in.
1:11 Verse 2- Drums provide a solid beat and the tempo slows down.
