Most cheap oils contain trans-fat which is just another form of plastic. Trans-fats arereally harmful and can enhance the risk of heart disorders, diabetes and, in some cases, Alzheimer’s. They are produced when hydrogen is added to vegetable oil. Trans-fats increase Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL) – the “bad cholesterol” and lower High Density Lipoproteins (HDL) that we call “good cholesterol”. This leads to undesirable increase in the ratio of total cholesterol to HDL cholesterol, which increases the risk of coronary heart disease. While all processed/hydrogenated oils contain trans-fats in small levels, Canola oil has zero trans-fats. Canola oil is also rich (61%) in MUFA Oleic Acid, which has beneficial health effects. U.S. - Canadian Clinical Trial Shows Canola Oils Benefit Waist And HeartA research presented at the American Heart Association’s EPI/NPAM 2013 Scientific Sessions in New Orleans on March 21, 2013 suggests that Canola oil can lower abdominal fat.
