The Green Team!
The Money Management course has been very successful at Wurrumiyanga and all the la-
dies in the picture have finished their course and should be very pleased with their efforts.
To congratulate and distinguish them as graduates of the course we supply the very sought
after TITEB shirts. The ladies are now commonly called the Girls in Green and wear their
shirts proudly!

RJCP - Meet Michael! (Aka Mick Dundee)
Hi my name is Michael Page and I’m the supervisor for RJCP at Pirlangimpi. I’ve
been working with RJCP for almost five months.
We’ve got a couple of programs running, one of them is a mowing crew that trims
the grass of the workers and the elderly. And then there is the nursery, the place
where we germinate seedlings that we collect around town and those that are sent
over from Darwin.
We also have plants in the ground around the nursery! A big thanks to Milikapiti
farm for supplying us with plants and seeds. One of our goals is to plant at least one
fruit tree at every house in our town. A few weeks ago we went down to the local
water hole to mow the over grown grass and to also have a nice barbeque. We have
some courses in horticulture and land management in the following year for the
workers so we try to get them as work ready as we can for jobs in Forestry and the
farms!
John and Charlotte Visit Wurrumiyanga
John and Charlotte, from Scotland, visited us in February. They worked for us as volunteer teachers in 2006 and
2007. Norm and Denise took them back to the Islands to meet up with past students and friends. They were
thrilled to be back on the Islands and were very sad when we left.

Tiwi Islands Sign Historic Forestry Agreement
A Japanese company has signed a deal
to export and sell woodchips from the
Tiwi Islands in the Northern Territory.
Over five years, the local Tiwi Planta-
tions Corporation (TPC), in partnership
with Mitsui, hope to export up to
400,000 green metric tonnes of Acacia
magnium to Japan, China and India.
Chairman of Mitsui, Yasushi Takahashi,
said the Tiwi Islands was famous for
arts and football (AFL), and his com-
pany was committed to making it 'world
-famous' for exporting woodchips.
TPC's general manager, Roger Smith, said the Memorandum of Understanding signed with Mitsui is a major mile-
stone for the plantations.
"But today is not just about forestry, it's also about the Tiwi's and a vision to create a private economy," he said at
the ceremony.
"In five years the gross revenue to the islands will be in the order of up to $200 million.
"We believe we will be funding be-
tween 80 and 100 jobs."
The NT Chief Minister, Adam Giles,
was on hand to witness the signing
and commended Traditional Owners
on their 'courage' to take on the planta-
tions in 2009 after the collapse of for-
mer owners, Great Southern.
“The Tiwi people have spent in excess
of $9 million of their own money on
the ongoing management of the plan-
tation and this partnership could fi-
nally give them some return on that
investment,” he said.
“I commend the Tiwi people for their
commitment to building a sustainable
economic future for the islands. Their determination to break the cycle of welfare dependency should be an exam-
ple to others."
Around 30,000 hectares of Acacia magnium are growing on Melville Island. The first shipment of woodchip is ex-
pected to leave the redeveloped Port Melville later in the year.

Quilt Making & Cooking with Romela & Paul
The RJCP ladies at Pirlangimpi have been busy learning how to make these beau-
tiful quilts with Romela and learning about Indian Cuisine with Paul and cooking
up some great recipes. Looks like a fun way to learn how to read and write!
