• School District XYZ finds a leak in their gym roof
• They use local maintenance to repair leak and clean up
water from the floor
• All they did was mop up the water that had leaked in• Nothing additional was done
• Did not report to GSBA thinking they had handled it
• Two (2) weeks later, gym floor starts buckling
• GSBA called in; extensive repairs required

• Post Injury Management starts with the supervisor or direct report of the injured worker, not the physician ( It starts the moment you have notice of an injury or illness)
• Early Investigation is critical in obtaining accurate information, establishing events, identifying witnesses and condition which may be valuable information in the future
• Once employer (supervisor or direct report) has notice of an accident, Georgia gives 21 days for the insurer or carrier to file a position on accepting or denying the claim

• Prompt reporting, allows for timely payment of benefits and eliminates monetary fines/penalties for late benefit payments (medical and lost wages)
• Prompt reporting helps facilitates better medical management, which aids in quicker recovery and reduces potential for payment of medical conditions that may not result from injury
• Prompt reporting of claims reduces litigation and attorney involvement

• Some claims require immediate assistance from GSBA but other claims of a less serious nature can be emailed or reported during regular office hours

Auto claims• Location• Description of what happened• For bus accidents, were there students on board• Were there any injuries and are they serious (visible) or minor
(complaints)• Who was at fault• Year make and model the vehicles involved• Are the vehicles drivable and if not what is the address of where they are• What is the phone number/email for who we need to contact• Were the police called and which municipality was it• Pictures of both vehicles and the accident scene are always helpful if
possible• Name, address and phone number of witnesses if possible• Try to get as much of this information as possible but don’t wait to get it
all (Don’t have to wait for a police report)
