Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Grace to you and peace!
I am still hearing Christmas carols!“A star, a star, dancing in the night,
with a tail as big as a kite.”
Many thanks for sharing your joy, your voices, your leadership, your decorating gifts, your tenderness for Christ’s birth this last week at Nativity! Our church has been an inviting star over God’s sacred story, beckoning and calling all who see and hear to come and see! Nativity’s Christmas celebrations- beginning with the children’s pageant, flowing through our children’s and family worship services, and culminating in our contemplative midnight service on Christmas eve each resonated with beauty and tenderness, joy and hope of the messiah, Jesus, born in a manger in Bethlehem. Wow. Thank you to each of you who added your light: your time and gifts to help us tell and remember the story!
January in Bend can feel dark and empty after all the color and tinsel of Christmas, but our story of Jesus this month bursts with surprise and reversal as Jesus begins his ministry with abundance at the wedding in Cana, making not just a little wine, but 750 bottles worth! Let there be no mistake, with Jesus, the party is just beginning, the lights are bright - yet his guest list will be equally surprising!
January can feel bleak for people.. Whose party feels “over” this month? Who missed the invitation lists in December? We know people who just moved to town or recently awakened to their desire for a meaningful community of faith. This month might be a
beautiful time to invite them to Jesus’ party at Nativity as we follow Jesus’ new ministry of radical inclusion and joy-filled banqueting. The light of the world (Jesus) is breaking out!

Saints Alive
What a great time at the December Saints Event! And so many people to thank for making it so great. Thanks to Amy for her faithful commitment to Saints, to Linda Lloyd who once again blessed us with her artistic gift of Christmas cards, to Santa and Mrs Claus who remind us that there is still a child alive and well inside of us, to Pastor Chris for bringing his love of piano playing so we could sing Christmas carols, and to Sylvia and gang for helping with the set up. And a great big thanks to all of you brought cookies and who stayed to help with clean-up. That was pretty amazing! And a special part of the event was the table full of gifts for Grandma’s House. Thank you Marilou and Alyce for sharing your experience of Grandma’s House. The ministry of Saints Alive now has its own ministry - Grandma’s House! We will be letting you know each month what gift you can bring to our events that will be given to Grandma’s House.
As with last year, we will not be having an event in January. Most of us will be pretty full and exhausted from the Christmas holidays. Our next event will be February 4th at 11:30 in the Fellowship. Mark your calendars. There will be more information about that event to follow.
Two more things: if you would like to join our Saints Alive Team to help with planning and ideas, please let Del Van Camp, Alyce Van Til or Marci Padgett know. We welcome knew ideas. Secondly, if you are not receiving the email updates or know someone who is not, please let Marci Padgett know. We don’t want to leave anyone out!
So - from the Saints Alive Team - Merry Christmas to you and yours. And may God Bless our New Year with His Peace and good health.
