JESUS’

OWNERSHIP,

YOUR

STEWARDSHIP

1 Now listen, you rich people, weep andwail because of the misery that iscoming upon you. 2 Your wealth hasrotted, and moths have eaten yourclothes.

JAMES 5:1-6

3 Your gold and silver are corroded.Their corrosion will testify against youand eat your flesh like fire. You havehoarded wealth in the last days. 4 Look! The wages you failed to pay theworkmen who mowed your fields arecrying out against you. The cries of theharvesters have reached the ears of theLord Almighty.

JAMES 5:1-6

5 You have lived on earth in luxury andself-indulgence. You have fattenedyourselves in the day of slaughter. 6 Youhave condemned and murderedinnocent men, who were not opposingyou.

FOUR

CATEGORIES OF

PEOPLE

IN THE BIBLE

GODLY

POOR

GODLY

RICH

UNGODLY

POOR

UNGODLY

RICH

WEALTH

TODAY

THE GODLY POOR &

THE UNGODLY RICH

Here’s the big idea:

You can’t take it with you, but you can send it on ahead. That’s what Jesus

says. Store up your treasures in heaven. You can send it on ahead.

By sharing, by being generous, God, who in the end does all the accounting,

will reward you eternally for your faithfulness presently. That’s what he’s

saying.

HOARDING &

DEFRAUDING

HOARDING

If you have things you don’t even need, if you have things you don’t even use, does not your heart open to love, to

help, and to serve, and to bless others? If not, then you don’t have the heart of

God because that’s God’s heart.

God’s heart is a giving heart. God’s heart is a sharing heart.

God’s heart is a glad heart.

DEFRAUDING

LAND

OWNERS

The landowners that he’s speaking of, they’re unbelievers. They don’t love the Lord; they don’t serve the Lord.

LABORERS

The laborers that he’s speaking of dolove the Lord, and they’re receivingtremendous injustice and so they arecrying out to the Lord.

These are hardworking guys who aresupposed to get paid at the end of theday so they can go home and providedinner for their family. And theyworked hard all day and they didn’t getpaid.

OUR CREATOR

ENDOWED US

WITH RIGHTS

PRINCIPLES

OF WORLDLY

OWNERSHIP

I DO NOT

BELONG TO

THE LORD

NOTHING

I HAVE

BELONGS TO

THE LORD

I DESERVE

ALL THAT I

WORK FOR

I ONLY

ANSWER TO

MYSELF

That’s the underlying ideology that James is going after in the ungodly rich.

It’s this issue of ownership. What’s mine is mine, what’s yours is

mine.

PRINCIPLES

OF GODLY

STEWARDSHIP

I

BELONG TO

THE LORD

STEWARDSHIP PRINCIPLE

6 And you also are among those whoare called to belong to Jesus Christ.

ROMANS 1:6

Jesus is way better in control than you. He’s way better in charge than

you. We’re his possession. We belong to him.

EVERYTHING

I HAVE

BELONGS TO

THE LORDSTEWARDSHIP PRINCIPLE

Well, then, everything we have belongs to him. It’s his ownership, my stewardship.

Everything belongs to the Lord.

EVERYTHING

I HAVE

Tony Chan (Peter Chan Chun-

chuen) Nina Wang

Hong Kong's Tony ChanChun-chuen, a famed fengshui master, has renouncedthe Chinese system ofgeomancy as devilish, andbecame a Christian afterreading the Bible. As hewas baptized this week, hechanged his name to PeterChan.

Chan was baptized byPastor Lam Yee-lok at theCrossroad CommunityBaptist Church in Tsing YiIsland in Hong Kong onTuesday, South ChinaMorning Post reports.

"This is the happiest day inmy life. It felt like gettingmarried, and I could telleveryone that I am aChristian," he was quotedas saying during his privatebaptism, attended byabout 70 friends andrelatives, including his wife,Tam Miu-ching.

Chan's wife testified thatshe has seen changes inhim after his conversion."He has changed, becoming quieter, happier, and less agitated," she wasquoted as saying. "We aremore harmonious now, ashe is spending more timewith the kids."

Chan, who made billions byproviding feng shui servicesto rich people, stands trialnext month, on charges offorging a will of the latebillionaire Nina Wang KungYu-sum. He spent yearsbattling to get hold of herfortune after she died ofcancer in 2007. The tycoon,at the time of her death, waschair of Chinachem Groupand Asia's richest woman.

The 53-year-old said hewas not afraid of going tojail. "There is nothing to bescared of here, because allthat matters is under God'splan.“ Chan recently told agathering of Christians thathis past was "completecrap," and "has to beflushed away." Feng shui,an ancient Chinese beliefsystem based on

harnessing natural andspiritual energies, he said,is fake. "Only Christ is true.If feng shui turns out to betrue, it is only the devilplaying tricks… you have tobe especially careful if theycome true, because bycreating such effects, thedevil's motive is to lurepeople towards him," TheStandard quoted him assaying.

Chan told CommercialRadio this week that his lifebegan to change in Marchlast year, when hisChristian driver Henry Tamquit and gave him a Bible."When I held on to thatBible, I felt like paralyzed …and warmth in my heart …so I asked Henry, 'Can Ihave a meeting with apastor?'" he said.

Chan then met Lam Yee-lok, who together withanother pastor told himabout Christianity.

Everything we have is a gift. When the sense of entitlement is gone,

the sense of presumption is gone, and the sense of awe, wonder, and

gratitude has come. Christians should always live, to some

degree, in that state—that it’s all a gift.

The people in your life are a gift. The opportunities in your life are a gift. The possessions in your life are a gift.

The resources in your life are a gift. The days in your life—they’re a gift. And

the greatest gift of all is salvation

Jesus just gives. He gives His righteousness, He gives His holiness,

He gives His love, His grace, His mercy, and His forgiveness. He goes to the

cross, he gives His body, He gives His blood. He gives it all. He gives.

He gives. Everything you have spiritually is a gift. Everything we have physically is a gift. Everything we have

relationally—it’s a gift.

I AM A

STEWARD

OF THE LORD

STEWARDSHIP PRINCIPLE

If we belong to the Lord, and everything we have belongs to the Lord, and everything we have is a gift from the Lord, then we are a steward

of the Lord.

GENEROUS

PARENTS

The anecdote to hoarding and defrauding is giving. It neutralizes it. It

disarms it. It defeats it.

Give to be a blessing. God gives, and God’s blessed by His giving, and God is joyful in His giving. That’s why the Bible

says that God loves a cheerful giver. God is a cheerful giver. You don’t give

to get a blessing; you give to be a blessing.

You don’t give to get a blessing; you give to be a blessing. And the blessing

is seeing other people blessed.

God gives generously, lavishly. God enjoys giving. God loves giving and His

joy is in being a blessing. And then when He saves us and He entrusts to

us as stewards, as we get an opportunity to give generously, it’s not

giving to get, it’s getting to give.

DON’T WASTE AN

OPPORTUNITY

FOR JOY

If God is generous with us, we want to be generous with others. We don’t care how much you make, but God

cares what you do with it.
