IUB Library organises Library Orientation Class in every Semester for its new students to make them aware about the library's facilities and services. These slides provide some brief information about IUB Library facilities and services.

IUB library was established in 1993

to foster the current development

of educational and research

activities of IUB community. Since

its inception it has been performing

as an integral part to cultivate total

educational process of the

university.

Library Membership

Every valid student (Graduate/Undergraduate) can be a member of IUB Library.

For new membership one needs his/her Payment Slip or Money Receipt of current semester and a Passport size Photograph.

Summer 2013 Semester will be Expired on 16 August 2013

N.B: Membership must be renewed beginning of every semester upon showing Money Receipt

Library Timing

During semester period-

Sunday – Wednesday: 8:30 AM to 9:30 PM Thursday & Saturday : 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM

During off-semester period-

Saturday – Thursday: 8:30 AM to 5.00 PM

Friday: Closed

N.B: Check-Out time from the Library is 15 minutes prior to the Library closes.

Library CollectionThe Library resources include books, periodicals, university catalogues,

newspapers, audiocassettes, video cassettes, DVD/CDs, data disks etc.

At present the library has around:

Besides, The Library has been receiving a large number of titles of

periodicals every year. These are in form of Bulletin, Journal, Research

paper, Review, Magazine etc.9

General Rules for Library Users

Students who have updated membership can use the library services and facilities. Any student may be asked to show his/her valid ID card whenever needed.

Library is mainly a place of self paced study area, so Silence is required throughout the library wherever indicated.

Mobile phone must be kept on silent/vibration mode in the library and should not be used in anywhere within the library premises.

Personal possessions should not be allowed in the library, except exercise book (khata), pen, geometry box, laptop and calculator.

Library safekeeping is for keeping your personal possessions (of course do not keep money or other valuables);

Any offences will be pursued immediately under the university’s codes of discipline and will result in suspension from library facilities. Library user should follow proper dress-code which reflects our culture and local context.

Willful misuse of library facilities may result in membership of the library being terminated.

Writing or marking in books is forbidden. Any sort of mutilation will cause of replacement.

Borrowing Facilities

An undergraduate student can borrow maximum 03 books, 03 Book’s CD/DVD and 01 Movie for 10 days.

A graduate student may borrow maximum 05 books, 05 Book’s CD/DVDs and 02 Movies for 15 days.

Course related reference books marked with Green ‘R’ may be borrowed for only two hours and other reference books marked with red ‘R’ are reserved for use inside the Library.

Renew: Borrowers can renew his/her borrowed item(s) after coming personally to the library or calling IUB ext. 322 or 321.

Fine: The fine is Tk. 10/= per day per book and for reserved book Tk.10/= per hour calculated from the date/time mentioned on the due slip of the material.

Call NumberA call number is a group of numbers and/or

letters put together to tell you where in the library to find your book.

Books (as well as journals and any materials that accompany books) are arranged on the shelf by call numbers.

The call number is a unique identifier and is created using the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), or Dewey Decimal System

The rationale behind this alphanumeric system is to classify books by subject both broadly and specifically.
