As followers of Christ, we are challenged to make a preferential option for the poor, namely to create conditions for marginalized voices to be heard, to defend the defenseless, and to assess lifestyles, poli-cies, and social institutions in terms of their impact on the poor. LIVING THE GOSPEL

24th Sunday in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel Jesus proclaims

God’s prodigal love for sinners. God is like a parent watching for the lost son to return; like a shepherd willing to leave the 99 to seek the one; like the woman, unsatisfied with the nine coins, who scours the house to find the lost

coin. We can turn from God, but God never turns from us. God in turn invites us to be in community with one another

even other sinners? Will we join in God’s community or reject it like the older brother?

CHILDREN

LITTLE FLOWER ACADEMY

STUDENTS AT FIRST SCHOOL MASS Three and four-year-old students from our new Little Flower Academy received a special blessing as they attended their first school mass on Thursday, September 5th, with their “buddies” from 3rd grade. The buddies help them learn proper participation during Mass.

LITURGY OF THE WORD WITH CHILDREN BEGINS NEXT MONTH LWWC will be held every Sunday during the 9:00 Mass beginning in October.

It will also be held during the 11:30 a.m. Mass the first Sundays of the month. The liturgy is developmentally appropriate for children ages 5 -10. Children younger than 4 must be accompanied by a parent. Prayer leaders and cantors are needed to expand the 11:30 a.m. offering to additional Sundays. Volunteers serve once a month with 2 or 3 other team members who remain full participants in the Mass.

Contact Beverly Riviello. beverly-riviello@sttaustin.org 512-451-5121 X1027 or see the parish website for more information.
