What is seamless switching

• The “Old Days”– “Bang boxes” glitchy switching while projector resynced– Down conversion Folsom 9400 9700

• Smart switchers – Sent signal to Projector to load a file, file would be created

for every source and every screen

• Scalers– Folsom 2200 – Enabled projector to be set to one Resolution– Incoming image is sized to the output resolution– ScreenPRO/ScreenPRO Plus– Athena™ Processor

Image Processing Theory

• Single scaler – Must clear or freeze a scaler to perform a transition– Can change size and position of incoming source to create a

PIP (Picture in Picture)– Can apply borders and shadows to a pip

• Mixer– Two scalers combine to create a smooth transition between

two sources

• BG (background)/DSK (downstream key)– Unscaled, must be same resolution as output– Cannot change size of incoming source

• Logo– Captured from a scaler or BG/DSK– Top most layer

ImagePRO Operation

• Plug in power

• Plug in sources

Connections

ImagePRO Connectivity Diagram

ImagePRO Operation

• Perform a Factory Reset

Starting from scratch

ImagePRO Operation

• Set output resolution– 1024x768 @ 59.94– Save configuration

• Turn on Test Patern– Adjust monitor or Projector

Settings

Output Menu Options

• Format Selection– Allows you to select from one of the many output

formats loaded into the system– Select this option and then use the wheel to scroll

through options. Press the select key when you find the one you need. You should set the output to match the native resolution of the display device.

• Timing adjust– Allows you to adjust or manipulate the pixel and line

counts of the output format selected.

• Composite/ S-Video Adjust– Option only available for NTSC and S-Video. – Includes Hue, Saturation and Pedestal adjustments

Output Menu Options

• Sync Settings– Includes setting for C-Sync or H and V Sync

• Underscan– Range is 0% to 15% to allow for underscan typically for

NTSC recording

• Colorspace– RGB or YPbPr for analog outputs

• Gamma– Adjusts the Gamma associated with the current output.

Range from 1.00 to 3.00 in .1 steps

• Sharpness– For NTSC outputs adjusts the scalers sharpen or softening

amount. -10 is softest, +10 is sharpest

• Flicker Reduce– For interlaced sources, set to reduce any flicker in the image

Output Menu Options

• Genlock Submenu– Five settings to select from

• Freerun- No Genlock engaged• Input Video- Locks to sync from source• H+V Sync- Lock source are external H & V pulses • Csysnc- Lock source is an external Composite Sync input • Blk Burst- Genlock source is an external Black Burst Signal

– Type• Selects the genlock mode. Available types: V Lock, HV Lock,

HVSc Lock (Full genlock)• SDI output requires that HV Lock be selected id Genlock is

required.– H Phase

• Allows the H timing to be adjusted relative to Genlock H sync.– SC Phase

• Sets the Subcarrier phase, relative to Genlock source. Only Valid when using Black Burst source or a Composite video input. Composite output required.

Output Menu Options

• Last step is to Save Configuration.• This will save into non volatile memory and will

stay even if unit loses power.• If not saved, the setting will not be remembered on

next power cycle.• Reset Configuration resets to default values for the

output format selected.

Test Pattern Hot Key

• Brings up the test pattern and Raster Box options. • The testpaterns are:

– H Ramp– V Ramp– 100% Color Bars– 75% Color Bars (SMTPE)– 16 X 16 and 32 X 32 Grid– Burst (One on/ One off)– 50% Gray and Gray Steps 1 and 2

• Raster Box is a “broken” box that allows you to see the last pixel of image being generated by ImagePRO. Useful for setting up the display device.

ImagePRO Operation

• Input adjustment• 1:1 Pixel sampling • Save configuration

Settings

Input Menu Options

• Input Format– Indicates the current input video format that the unit

is seeing read as H active X V active @ Vertical Refresh in Hz.

– When Auto Acquire is active/ on, the input video format will be detected in the following order:

• Last used configuration for the selected channel• Any saved input configurations• Custom library formats created by user• Standard library from Factory/ Best Guess. If the input is “best

guessed” then it will be displayed with asterisks.

– When Auto Acquire is off, the unit will attempt to lock to user selected format. If no match is found the display will read “ Invalid Signal”.

Input Menu Options

• Type Selection– Options are: RGB, YPbPr, NTSC/PAL/SECAM, SDI, and

DVI– With Auto Acquire “ON”, the option will be limited to

the type of signal detected (Analog or Digital). With Auto Acquire off, user can select any option. If valid you will get a active selection in the format window, otherwise the window will read “Invalid Signal”.

• YPbPr Colorspace Selection– RGB, SMPTE, BETA, or M-II. Select the one for your

type of input

• Auto Acquire– On or Off. When On, the unit will Auto Acquire when

ever that channel is selected. You may need to turn Auto Acquire off to adjust some input timings (Advanced Users)

Input Menu Options

• Sampling– Two settings Over sample (Default) or 1:1. Over

sample is available for Analog inputs only

• Timing Adjust Submenu– If Sampling is set to Over sample, your options are

limited to Basic Left, Right, Top and Bottom size adjustments.

– If 1:1 is selected, Timing Adjustments move to Advanced totals, starts and active settings for Horizontal Pixels and Vertical Lines.

– We recommend that you use the output raster box in the test patterns to insure that you are sampling correctly and that your display is “seeing” the signal correctly.

Input Menu Options

• 1:1 Sample Overview– In order to scale an image, it must first be digitized.

This is the process of converting Analog signals into Pixels stored in the ImagePRO image memory. The default mode, Over Sampling, produces more samples than what there are in the original image.

– By using a 1:1 approach, you sample the signal at the same rate as the original. This reduces artifacts when the image is reconstructed at the new resolution.

– To set up the 1:1 sample, you use the AUTO CONFIG option in the timing adjust sub menu. The input signal should have non-black data on all four sides (Windows Desktop). Move Cursor to AUTO CONFIG and press select. The rest is….Automatic.

Input Menu Options

• Contrast and Brightness– Adjust the Contrast (Whites) and Brightness (Blacks)– Range is 75% - 125% where 100% is default

• Color Balance– If signal is RGB, you have Contrast and Brightness

control for Red, Green and Blue.– If signal is composite, component or S-Video, you will

have Hue and Saturation

• Gamma– Allows the user to specify the Gamma associated

with the current input. Range is 1.00 to 3.00

Input Menu Options

• Aspect Ratio– Allows the user to set the aspect ration of the

selected input. Standards are 1:1, 3:2, 4:3, 5:4 and 16:9. User can also set a custom ratio by selecting Custom and then adjusting Ratio Option.

• Letterbox– On or Off. Will force a 16:9 (1.77:1) letterbox for

inputs. Will not allow that input to fill entire screen.

• Processing Submenu– Options include Sync Select for RGB signals (C or

H/V), DeIntic (de-interlacing option), Motion Mode and Pull Down Detect for sources derived from a film source.

ImagePRO Operation

• Transition types• Zoom and Pan

– Can be saved as a custom ‘view’
